"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey cadjien, I guess I could make those peppers into a that Cha Cha or pepper sauce most of them are still good I just didn't pick them as we have a bunch in the freezer and pickled. That recipe would be a change of pace for peppers around here, so post away or send me a PM.

On the eggs I don't wash any of mine, ever. It's not so much the washing part cause I know from experience the big timers like Tyson do. They have a solution for cleaning them, don't know it, but the trick to washing them is you have to have the eggs and water at the same ambient temp(like both at room temps, for example) sounds like you could ruin more than help to me IMO. I just use a scotchbrite scrubbber and slightly rub off any contaminates other than that I leave well enough alone. I have almost 100% hatches under broodies and they for sure don't keep/lay those eggs in the most sanitary conditions either.

I almost forgot that I had a story to post from yesterday. Ok, as I'm driving home yesterday, I am about 1/2 miles from home and if you know me you will know that my eyes target EVERYTHING on the road. I can spot a dime on the highway going speeds of 70 MPH. I don't know how but I just can. Well anyway, we know it gets dark at 5:00 PM and it takes me 30 minutes to get home, so as I'm on the HWY near my house, I notice a DUCK sitting on the side of the road in high grass. I immediately recognize it's one of my scovies. And it's one of the newbies that has been in the group that test their flying skills all day long. Well, this one must have kept flying and ended up 1/2 mile from my house on the highway. She was just sitting there. So, I turn around and park in someone's yard and walk across the highway. I call out to her and she seems to know my voice. Well, as I'm walking towards her, she doesn't really move but I'm a little nervous because the area that she is in was once acreage of crawfish ponds. So I'm making sure everything is dried out before I commence to walk and sink in. Well, she moves a little and then walks into the the field. Well, at that time, I knew that I needed my boots and net. So, I go home but then remember it's egg night for one of my customers. So, I go deliver eggs and come back to the scene of the crime. She is still there waiting. So, I park my truck in someone's yard and let them know what I"m doing. So, I get my $100.00 MAGLITE flashlight that has STOPPED WORKING all of a sudden. :barnie So, now I can't see anything. So I get my cell phone flashlight and try to use that. USELESS. So I try to catch her with the net and she flies off. So, I'm walking in the field and thank goodness it has dried up. So, I walk out about 1 mile but I can't see her. By this time, it's too late for me to be out there, so I turn around. So, this morning I drive by the field and she is sitting dead in the middle just waiting and looking and looking scared to death. I called out to her that I would be back after work. So, I hope she is still in the field and I hope that I can catch her. That's what she gets for trying to fly!!!

Good afternoon everybody! Had 3 chicks hatched at noon when I checked w/Jim. Don't know how many others are pipped - Jim wouldn't know a pipped egg if he sat on one.

I'm so glad I'm off tomorrow so tonight I can stay up & watch the hatch *hopefully* progressing! I have to go home & set up the brooder box & heat lamp.

Sheesh Julie, I think we must be related - that sounds like something that would happen to me! My Dad got so upset that I didn't have a working flashlight he bought me another zillion-watt rechargeable one last month. I've already lost the charger cord.

Yesterday I let the chickens out after I got home, & I was outside checking things out & the rooster wandered over close to the young pea's pen -- well the guineas had a FIT - they always hang out w/the peas - since they were hatched together they think they are "family" I guess -- they came screaming across the yard, flying about 2 feet off the ground.

The poor rooster took off running down our driveway & the guins flew past him, reversed, landed & proceeded to chase him all the way up under our carport! Jim was laughing so hard he could hardly stand up. I grabbed a broom & chased the guins back & then the rooster ran back to the safety of his flock. Those guins sure took the arrogance out of him!

That is tooooo funny !!!!!!!! :lau

I wish I could have seen that. LOL

So what kind of flashlight do you have now Terri? I spent a lot of money on the MAGLIT and it's more of a MINlit. It ain't worth Crap. I have bought about 10 bulbs for the darn thing since I had it and the bulbs cost $6.00. I'm about paying for the flashlight all over again. I"ll have to check to see if it has a warranty. I need something else!
