Update on my Speckled Sussex eggs in the bator!!

Today were on day 8 and I decided to candle them last night about 2 this morning. Out of 13 eggs I have 7 that are forming. First time I ever did it and it was so neat. You could see a black dot for the eye and watch it move around the egg! I seperated the ones that I know for a fact are good with the ones that I'm pretty sure aren't. What do you all do?? Do you wait till day 14 and then remove the ones your positive aren't good??

Thanks,
Missi

Congrats Barred Babies! Looking good so far. I leave my eggs in until about day 14 but that's a judgment call. Do what feels right to you. Good luck with the hatch!!

Well, I think I'm going to wait. I know at least 3 had blood rings. I could tell that much at least. A couple were completly clear!! I bought the Incu Brite candler but to me it really isn't bright enough. Gonna try stealing my husbands mag light out of his unit tomorrow and see if it works better!! Since I'm so new to this I don't want to screw it up!!

Say some prayers for us, hubby is trying to find a job around CenLa. Offhsore thing he has been doing for 10 + years is not like it was since the rig explosion. Lovely, well I will keep the rest of my two cents to myself

Gotcha on our prayer list Wendy. PM me & let me know what kind of work he's thinking about & I'll let you know anything I hear about.

Missi I pitch any eggs w/blood rings but anything else -- as long as I don't smell anything "iffy" or see anything oozing, it stays in my bator right until the end.

Julie I make both kinds of pickles -- the Old South Lime, which are a sort of bread-and-butter, and kosher dills. I use Mrs. Wage's for the Old South recipe, and I have my own dill recipe I've tweaked over the years - but Mrs. Wages does a good dill pickle too.

I've been raising the Gurney's for 4-5 years now; definitely my favorite cuke. I tried the Eureka last year just for kicks & liked it--it made a nice overlap in production - I staggered the planting so had a steady supply of cukes for a long time.

Any recommendations on okra? I've never raised it but thought I'd try a row this year.

We lucked up on the weather last night; not as much rain as we thought - did lose a big part of one of the 100+ yr old pecan trees.

See you tomorrow morning Julie! Call if you run into any problems; I don't know which way the GPS will bring you on to our road-- there are 3 ways of getting to it.
