"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Right now there are no chicks or eggs hatching and no chickens yet either. Hubby went to the dr. and was diagnosed with lung cancer in his right upper lobe. The surgeon order a cardiologist visit to check out his heart condition. After having a nuclear stress test, mild ischemia, blockages, was discovered. So off to the hospital to have an angiogram. that showed major blockages in three arteries. one, the widowmaker, the main artery had two blockages with a bulge beating at a pulse different than his heartbeat. the next day surgery was scheduled for a triple bypass surgery. within a month, the lung cancer surgery was done. he spent thanksgiving and christmas day in the hospital. these two surgeries were MAJOR surgeries. two lymph nodes showed signs of being malignant. 4 rounds of chemo is in the future. he is still very weak and sore since his chest was cracked open. he is still in very much pain. recovery time is slow. I'm the sole caregiver for him which consumes most of my day. I'm glad that i didn't get chicks yet, as there wouldn't be time for me to care for them properly. hopefully things will be back to a little more normal pace for springtime. I'm hoping to be able to get chicks then and spend the time they need to thrive. thanks for the prayers and well wishes! Garilyn
So sorry to hear this -- still have him on our prayer list here -- and when the time comes that you are ready for chickens, chicks, eggs or whatever - if there's anything I have that you want you are welcome to it. I mean that. I know very well what it's like to be the sole caregiver and I haven't nearly gone through what you are going through.

Forgot to mention that I got my first goose egg for the year. Now the drama begins with those darn geese.

I almost had a weak moment this morning & started to ask you about sheep & their care, but I just got through spending several hours helping Jim with the first of several stages of making venison summer sausage, so I'm over it now!

LOVE geese.....DO NOT tempt me with cute goslings!
I miss having geese.
what kind do you have?

Sheep are kinda, sorta, well maybe easy? I have hair sheep, so there is no shearing. You just have to keep their hooves trimmed and de-worm them. Other than that, they LOVE grass. Best lawnmowers EVER!

I love them when they are babies but after a year old, my older geese turn them into devils. Let me know if you need some eggs to hatch. ;)

You ask what kind do I have. I have BAD BAD BAD geese. That's what kind I have.

Three questions: What did you mean by "now begins the drama?" How do the older geese turn the sheep into devils? What is a BAD BAD BAD goose?

I was actually googling about small size sheep. There is one that is pretty small, but it has the wool, so that's another story. What is "hair" sheep?

Sorry for so many questions, but I am just so curious.

Thanks, Celie. I'll make sure to plant the blueberries where they can't get them. I don't mind sharing with them, but I would like to have some myself. LOL They do not "share" well. Well, anyway, they don't share treats and bugs at all (greedy little robbers, they'll pull it right out of each other's peaks!), so I imagine they wouldn't share blueberries wth me either!
I have all of one side of the house with fruit trees and after we had picked any fruit that hadn't fallen, we let them into the little orchard to get some bugs and DH caught one of them jumping up to grab some of the lower leaves, after they ate all of the fallen fruit!

Congrats on your first egg! Two more of my Pomeranian girls had eggs waiting for me in their stalls this morning: 4 out of 7 are now laying. How many of yours are females?

As to you having BAD geese....they must be BAD to have ended up behind bars....lol. The picture above looks like they are in the slammer.

Oh, speaking of BAD geese...mine are at the back screen door yelling their heads off right now: Must be bedtime. If I do not PROMPTLY appear when they are ready, they come fetch me...booger heads!
