I'm so glad to hear that.

Terri Ann I've been wondering how the Bonide granules work,.. have you used those?

We have bees and plant butterfly gardens and the fogger has killed both.,.. I use a Pyrethrin spray and DE in the in the coop and in the garden and under the raised house and in the attic,. never had bug problems,. Thankfully

just those vile,. blood sucking mosquitoes that rise up out of the marches here and drive me from my own yard.

One night a few years ago I took DD and the boy next door out to Lake road at night to watch a lunar eclipse,. it's a road that is a sliver of ground out in a big open area going out to the Lake,. it gives us an unobstructed view. 5 minutes after we parked the vehicle was covered in a layer of skeeters so thick we couldn't see out,. we had to keep using the windshield wipers to see the eclipse and it just smeared them into a mosquito paste ,. it was really bad...

the children thought it was cool,.

Well it's been a day!! Had a broody break an egg that was on day 7. Ants got into the nest and she wouldn't go back on it. I cleaned everything up and she still wouldn't sit on the nest anymore. So I brought them inside and put them in my homemade incubator I just made!! Well decided since I needed to go ahead and cull some of the eggs in my Brinsea I added them in there. Then I get an email and the lady is shipping my other dozen of Speckled Sussex eggs tomorrow!!

Soooooo.... What to do???

If she does ship them tomorrow then I will probably receive them Thurs or Fri. (3rd or 4th) I go on lockdown with my SS eggs on Monday (8th). I think I will set the new eggs in my homemade bator till Monday and them do a switch a roo. Place the eggs going into lockdown in the homemade bator and then the new eggs in the Brinsea. Now here's the kicker. Would it be totally horrible if I place my eggs from my broody on lockdown a day early?? Reason being they should go on lockdown Saturday but I'll be in Monroe for the Expo...

Just wasn't expecting having to deal with these!!

So what do ya'll think????

Hi everyone! I haven't been on the boards in a while, but I'm starting to get chicken fever again! Last year 4 of the 5 "pullets" I bought started cock-a-doodle-doing so they ended up at my FIL's coop. I want to try again this year.

Is anyone in the Lafayette area planning on ordering any chicks? I would like 5 or 6 chicks. Maybe we could split an order?

So sorry to hear about your ordeal. I wish that I could offer some advice but I have no idea what to do about incubating eggs. I don't own an incubator and have never used one. I'm dumb when it comes to incubators. So sorry.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope all of them hatch.

Golly that sounds like just the sort of pickle I tend to get myself into! I had to read your post 3 times to get the gist of it, lol.
OK I'd do what you are thinking of doing -- do the switcheroo & I don't think it will hurt to put the broody eggs in lockdown a day early. My reasoning behind that being, it doesn't always go perfectly by the book in nature, does it? and I've had staggered hatches when I had only one bator that went OK.

At this point I think Julie has the right idea -- just go with broody hens! now if only I had a broody hen.......hey Kuntrygirl, you hatching any Cochins out? I think I need to buy a couple of future broodies from you, lol!
