"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey ya'll,.. just popped in to let those that are looking for organic feed know that I just spoke with Brandy at Okeefe's Feed and Seed in Covington and she says they are seriously looking into getting some in the store and to check back soon.  Give her a call and let her know that you would be a potential customer!
:weee

Loving this weather!

Terri Ann,.. those Wellies of our's are laying  pretty
dark, reddish brown, speckled eggs,.. and lots of them! Have your's started laying yet?

Coyote Creek just signed up with a distributor for Louisiana; they emailed me about it yesterday. They wanted me to send them the name of any feed store that might be interested. I can send you the info if you want, or I can have the distributor send the feed store some info.

brojrm Chris Herzog lives in Covington and he has better than hatchery grade breeds so contact PM him and there's a few others in your proximity that have good stuff too look around here they are probly 5 or so right off that are regular visitors here that could help you I'm sure. I have some but I'm a few miles west of you in Vernon parish so it would be a longer road trip for you to come here.

Oh and hey

Nice work kuntrygirl, looks good. I too have been cleaning out the henhouses and putting the "good stuff" on the garden spots and replacing it with sawdust. I have a neighbor just down the road a piece that has a sawmill and can get all I want for nothing but the "pure Dee" cost of backaching LABOR LOL

Jeff
Heya Captain Jeff Sparrow!
you still planning on being at the Mag Classic next weekend? dare I hope for some eggs heading my direction? or should I cool the 'bator a bit longer? (seriously, no rush! involved in the garden & spring cleanup right now, while Jim is off playing in the snow in lovely Wisconsin - heavy, cold, wet, March snow. while I bask in these lovely 70s)!

Hey La-yers - what do you use in our climate to treat the lawn and yards for fleas? I have dogs so aleay use pet-safe products but not sure if there's something special I should use for or avoid with the addition of chickens to the family. Thanks!
Use a mix of 1/3 sevin dust; 1/3 boric acid powder & 1/3 DE (diatomaceous earth) here. Sprinkle it in the chicken coop & in their 'dust holes' in their runs, & around the fenced in yards where the dogs go potty & the perimeter of the house. Use lemon pledge on inside of window sills & doorways - spiders hate the citrus & 'stickiness'.

between that & the "three cabelleros" (trio of guineas) no bug problems or snakes or mice or intruders here. Never had mites or anything like that on the poultry either.

Whoo-hoo!! congratulations!! My Wellies just turned 3 months old on Mar 7th, no eggs yet, but the little roos are starting to try & crow -- SO hilarious! - sound like somebody with a very bad cold saying "Ahh-haa" - they are really going to have to do better than that if they ever want to sound like real roos!

I think you might be right!! And don't forget it needs a lawn chair and side table so you can sit in there and monitor their health and stuff. That's important!
Don't laugh. I have two lawn chairs and a side table right in the middle of my chicken yard. I ran into a friend the other day and said, "hey, why don't you come over. We can kick back, sit in the chicken yard and feed the girls some grapes." She said, "do you realize how really wierd that sounds?" I guess I didn't or I wouldn't have said it. LOL I was serious. Really, what could be better? Under the big oak tree, next to my beginning gardens, sipping a cold beverage, feeding grapes to chickens and watching the bunnies play. What could be better than that? Really!

Well, I looked into it. Unfortunately, there is a $72 start up fee. Normally, I wouldn't care, but being that I am currently unemployed at the moment and have to drop a $500 deductible for my car on Tuesday due to the hit and run...

... it may have to wait a bit. LOL.

Though if anyone wants to meet-up and head to the show in Jennings next month, I'd be up for that. I think it's about 2 hours away. I would love to go see some nice birds.

I certainly understand the money thing, but nothing to stop us from having our own group. All we need is interest and a place we can meetup, maybe for lunch or dinner or something. I think there's some interest. What do you think?

The three cabelleros!! That's a riot! I never would have thought of including guineas for that purpose. I don't have a very big run - 4' x 8' with 5 bantam silkies. Do you think 1 guinea would fit? I let the free range when I'm out. Will let them out more when they are older. Would it be lonely being the only guinea?
Thanks so much for the advice.
