"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Oh yes they just love water they even have webbed feet just like labs do. I have one OL' Scrapper that when we go riding trails on the 4-wheeler he avoids no water holes or deep areas he hits them full steam and if he can't wade them them he swims it. Both of my older Catahoula's were raised over in Avoylles parish right on the Atchafalaya river so water to them is just a normal part of the terrain in fact their daddy is one bad-@$$ alligator fightin' SOB I've seen him come back with his neck split open and his owner stich him up and in a couple of days he a rearin' to go on another killin' spree again.

If you want to learn a little more about your Catahoula, Check out Don Abney and his book on The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog it's got some good reading on their origins and a lot of facts even I didn't know about them and I've had Catahoulas since I was way young and that's been quite a few decades ago.

We made it thru another cold night here 17* this morning, all's well nobody froze to death last night. I posted on the other thread this morning evrbody WATCH OUT for the thawing mud as it's slicker than greased owl crap. 'Bout busted my @$$ with both hands full of 5 gal. buckets of water. It's above freezing now and in the sun its starting to turn back into mud, sure was nice to walk on solid ground for a little bit. It's gonna warm up and more rain this next weekend and I'm not gonna say a bad word about it this time as you know it has to warm up to rain.

I've seen that book....I think I own it...Well, in the summer time, we have a pond in the woods behind our house...I take him there in the summer time. I throw his toy duck and he brings it back. I'm thing of showing him in 4-H....

Beautiful dogs!!!!

This is the coldest I've seen it for this long in many, many years. Everything is frozen outside for the last few days. The strawberry people, ohhhh, I feel for them!

At least the wind had died down the last 24 hrs.

Stay warm everyone!

Oh, I feel for you. I didn't watch the news this morning, but I think last night was the last of the really cold temps for us, supposed to be around 30 in the morning, I think. It's supposed to warm up gradually from here. I certainly hope so. Frozen waterers suck!!

No lie.... Never thought we'd really have to worry about that here!! We have to go out with a hammer to break the ice on the horses water!! My poor chickies metal waterer froze solid!! I usually just go out there and put the plastic one out till the other one thaws except we haven't gotten out the freezing temps in like 3 or 4 days.. Well tonight should be the last night and we'll be up in the 50's during the day!!

I can't wait!!

And JP It's been a LONG LONG time since I've seen temps this cold!! I think I read some place that it was 1996 the last time it was this cold!!

Know what you mean. The horses' water trough had a 3" thick layer of ice on it. Goldfish pond has been frozen for the past 3 days. Even the pond in the chicken yard had a layer of ice on it the past couple of days. Oh, and my plumber came, and won't fix my faucet until tomorrow-says it's too cold.?? So it was back to hauling buckets of water to the chickens.

So over this......

Yeah I posted yesterday for everybody watch out for the thawing mud its slick again, after a few days of cruising around on solid ground you tend to forget these little things that are really normal this time of the year as mud is always slick accept when frozen then its like a rough concrete floor. Anyway I did it again too this morning right in the same spot as yesterday, where the sun was shining pretty good on the ground, right where I've gotta turn a corner. Went a barrelin' round the corner and swoosh!! my foot went right I was a goin' left. This time I didn't have both hands full of something and managed to make a good recovery without incident but it sure got the heart a thumpin' real good right out of the gate this morning.

Anyway, all's well here, with the ecception of having to haul out water every morning, but it'll be all good here in another day or so. We'll be out cleaning out the water ways again so that the chickens won't drown, instead of freeze, here in no time.
