Was it this thread, that someone asked if anyone was serving Turkey for Easter dinner? Silly wrabbit, turkey is for Thanksgiving, Rabbit is for Easter dinner. Anyway, that's what we're having! I did process a Holland White turkey hen last week, that weighted 22 pounds after processing, not counting, neck, liver, etc. and she was not fatty at all, had a very large breast, like the Thanksgiving Toms, I posted pictures of. I hear different opinions of which Heritage turkeys are the biggest. Some state it is the Standard Bronze, some say it is the Holland White. Well, Has anyone out there processed a Standard Bronze that weighted over 35# processed for a tom and over 22# processed for a hen? I would really like to know? I have been corrected by several people who are suppose to know more than me that Holland Whites come in second to the Standard weight in size! Inquiring minds want to know, so please post process weights you have experienced, if you have raised either!

Jeffers sent me an Email, they are having an Easter sale through Monday! 10% off any order over $60 and free standard shipping. I thought I would mention it in case any of you haven't ordered your vaccines or supplies yet. I need to give my dogs a rabies booster, so I will probably be ordering myself tomorrow.

If you have the vents on top open, first off close them up with the stoppers then if it doesn't come up you may try a wet sponge(not dripping wet just dampened some) or two, placed inside you want it around 50 to 60% ideally but 40 to 50 is good enough esp with our humid air. if it gets too high during hatch remove one bung from to top vents maybe both. You can have too high of humidity which is worse than too little.

Happy Easter everyone. I hope you all enjoy your day.

Just a couple of pics of the boys on their roost yesterday. Their tails are growing nicely.

Happy Easter to all!

Julie, Love that tail!! How tall is your pen for the peas?

Also, I've got a bone to pick with you and Ashleigh -- This forum is supposed to be for "CHICKEN MATH" -- NOT "CRITTER MATH". You and Ashleigh have now enabled me to get some Katahdins. I have a registered momma with twins coming to me in June; plus a ram from Ashleigh. Dang It!!

And, hubby doesn't even know it yet.

I've been feeling him out on the topic and have been "planting the seed" slowly.

A good thing our anniversay is the end of May -- it'll give me the excuse I need to tell him that I want sheep.

BTW, if anyone is looking for registered Katahdins, my cousin, Chip Duhon, in Forked Island has some for sale. Registered lambs are $250 each. I got a Registered mother with her twins at her side for what I think is a very good price. Chip is wanting to downsize a little and has several for sale.

It is really raining hard here now! The forecast is for more of the same for most of this week. These April showers might keep the garden from being planted, again. I closed the doors to the rabbit barn, because almost a dozen growing poults are in there in their hay nest in the corner and some are only about 4 weeks old. The oldest pair are about 6 weeks, the next pair about 5 weeks and out of the remaining, it looks like 2 females and the rest males, IMO. I will try to weigh them tomorrow and post pics, but the largest looks at least 5 pounds. There are also about 20 ducklings with them. 4 NZW does kindled last week and 5 are due to download on the 4th. I processed 11 - 11 to 12 week old fryers on Friday and Julie, I am holding 4 does and a buck for you that are reaching the 4 month old mark. so by the time I get them to you, they will be almost ready to breed! LOL Girl, you're running out of time to get rabbit meat into your freezer, before the triple digit weather gets here. My last 4 litters have been from 10 to 13 kits, but even with 10 to a litter, with only one litter each doe before it gets hot, you can be putting 40 meat rabbits in tour freezer. I usually wait until October, before breeding them again, and then every 2 months, right through the winter, so I get 5 litters a year. Rabbits are cheap to feed and during the summer, fresh mowed grass really cuts the feed bill down to almost nothing. During the winter, I buy a good horse hay for them, but a large bale goes a long way. I get a lot more meat for less feed with rabbits, than I can with poultry. Well, since it's raining, I think I deserve a nice nap! So bye for now, all!

How many acres of pasture do you need for an adult pair and a set of twins, critter math wise?
