"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

So, I garden and have 2 plots that no matter what I've tried the veggies stay miniature...they flower & fruit but just stay teeny tiny. Someone told me to have it tested in those spots. Is this that type of testing? And what is it testing for? Sorry lol it was just today we were talking about it and then I saw your post! So maybe I'm way off but have to ask!
If anyone is interested in soil testing and how to tell what type of soil you have, let me know. Or if you plan on purchasing any property and want to know what type of soil that property has, I can show you that as well.

Yes, that is exactly what I am referring to. There is a link that I can send you and the t ype of soil that you have is already listed with the USDA. There is also info where you can send you soil off to be tested and they will give you a full report as far as what type, problems, etc.

In my soil testing class this weekend, they gave us the website to go to to find this info. I typed in my address and it showed me an aerial view of my property and the types of soil that I have. I was able to speak with the guy and we talked about my soil and planting, etc. I can send you that link and walk you through it and give you the info for the soil testing.

You are right on target in your thinking. ;)

Thats awesome! I need to find out...I work nights so it won't be til tomorrow maybe that I can check it out (im on my phone- some stuff/sites are a lil too advanced for it lol) but that'd be great, I'd love to find out if its the soil, then amendments can be made less blindly.

Sounds good. Do you want me to PM you the links with all of the other info?

One rooster will be fine to help guide them. Some folks are happy just having laying hens. If there is any possibility you'll want to hatch babies from them later you'd better keep one.
I received the Click N Ship info this afternoon. I hope the chicks arrive in good shape!
When are you supposed to actually pick them up, tomorrow???

That'd be great! Thanx so much

Could you include me on that, Julie? I know what I have: clay clay and more clay, but I'm not sure what to do about it. Mainly I add much layers of good soil and lots of mulch each year to break down and LOTS and LOTS of bags of bagged leaves I pick up along the street in the fall. I'm composting, but don't have a lot of that yet.

I will. I think I know who did it, and I was so mad. I guess that's just chickens, but I would of preferred the quick end.

These guys are going on 10 weeks, when should an orpington be big enough? I am watching the birds to see which rooster is the nicest. I want to leave one or two for protection.

And I have no idea what the bloodlines are for these birds. Probably a hatchery. My plan is to have these as a laying flock while I fence off sections of the pen for the good breeds (long way down the road!) Is just one rooster good or more or should I have one at all?
If you just want them as a laying flock, you really don't need a rooster for protection -- your dominant hens will take over & perform that function for the flock. I'd cull all of them. I'm not a big rooster fan; I find the hens lay better without the roos bothering them. I am fixing to cull one of my two Welsummer roos - that will leave me three roos - one Wellie, one Marans & one lavendar Am - unfortunately, I need them for future eggs/chicks for my three chosen lines. I might put all of them into a "batchelor pad" - I've done that in the past, until I need them.

They were shipped from Mississippi. Express says they will be here Friday, but Shreveport usually slows me down by a day. I anticipate them going to Alexandria on Friday and having to drive over Friday night to get them. I hate leaving them to be transported to my PO Saturday morning--that's 3 days in a box. I am hoping they are in good shape. He said he put 22 in the box.
