"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I had another lamb that was born early this morning. That makes 3. I think I have 2 left that have to deliver. I took a pic but I won't post it because it is gross being as though it just popped out of mom. I don't want to ruin anyone's breakfast this morning. I'll post a pic this weekend. She was cleaning it up this morning.

The other lamb is doing good. It has been taking the bottle like a champ. It sucked 2 ounces of milk last night and this morning it sucked 5 1/2 ounces of milk. I was surprised this morning when I got close to her, she immediately stood up, walked up to me and started to lick my leg as if she was looking for the place to suck. I guess that's a good sign. :)

That's great news!  If you decide to get rid of any ewe lambs later then let me know!  I'm looking to add a few by the end of the year.

Also,  I have 10 large fowl brown egg layer chicks (BCM roo over Black Sex Link hens) that hatched last weekend if anyone wants them!  Free to whomever wants to come pick them up from Iowa.  Should make some great layers!

Ok. I will. The chick offer sounds tempting but I'm losing my mind over there with those 50 free freeloaders in my garage from that feed store. I don't know why I subject myself to stuff like this. :/

There is an older couple that is looking for layers but they don't want chicks. I wonder if I can care for them until they get bigger and give them to this couple . Nah, maybe not. Scratch that idea. :smack

Gracie, have you thought about how long you want to keep your ewes? I have some older girls and I'm not sure what I should do with them, so I'm asking people who have sheep what they do with their older girls. Because mine are getting up in age, I really don't want them to breed any more. I don't want them to begin experiencing birthing problems. The oldest girl that I have is about 7 years old. :/

Do you have your sheep tagged so that you will know when they were born/age?

Well, I only have a small herd, so at this point I can tell every girl apart and I know approximately (within a few months) of how old they are. I plan to get a bunch of tags, and start keeping records of everyone now that I have a couple registered sheep.

The ideal thing would be to find someone who wants to keep them as a pet, but most people only want to feed something that is producing.

Technically you only need a ram at your place for one month out of the year to have lambs. If you have the space to separate them during that time, I'd say just keep them. I wouldn't trust someone else to keep them separated from the rams.

I plan to keep my rams separate from the flock once I get water run to the back pasture. Right now, they just breed as they wish since everyone is young.

Thanks. To be honest, I'm excited about having to prepare bottles of milk and feeding it. I have been having fun watching that little buggar suck on a bottle. It looks weird opening up the fridge and seeing bottles full of milk. :gig

Forgot to mention that I had 2 more gosling to hatch. I currently have a total of 16 gosling now and orders for people who want to buy them. I think I will try to keep at least 6 to stay in hopes that they don't turn into Satan's Army.

Mine aren't aggressive unless you try to get into their nest. Otherwise they just ruffle their feathers and do a bunch of hissing lol

Lucky you. Mine will slap the crap out of you if you get too close to them. I don't mess with them. I try to not even look at them. :/
