Hope everyone is having a great father's day, mom's included! Because if you're anything like me, my hubby works 3 weeks out of the month offshore so I have to play daddy some days too lol. Come to think of it, where is my father's day gift! he he

Happy Father's Day to all - including the Ladies who are also Fathers!

Put up 17 pints of tomatoes -- I think I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow & get some rest!

Fixing to fire up the Brinsea & put 7 peacock eggs in it -- I can't just let them go to waste & die.... hope I can find them homes in a few weeks when they hatch.

Still don't have a cell phone where I can be in touch during the day -- still researching options -- but I will be back soon!

Let the chickens roam all day today -- they loved it!

I think I have my first broody (10 weeks too late

).
She has been puffing up and sticking her wings out at anyone that got close to her for a good week now and she has been staying in the nest boxes almost all day yesterday and today. I take her egg and anyone else's that happen to be under her, but she still sits there. I worry for her because it is so hot and there is not as much ventilation in their coop as in our new ones. I think I'll be modifying their coop soon... BTW, she is my heaviest hen, a white plymouth rock. She's even heavier than our huge BO rooster.

One of that group definitely had worms, so I treated them all. Could that have caused her broodiness?

Also, they were free range and we have a group of "babies" that are 10 weeks old that we let out every so often, but they stay close to their coop right now. How long should we keep them off the free range area so they don't get the worms?

If you don't want her to hatch anything, I would break her. Being broody is hard on their bodies. Not really worth it if there is no outcome.

Sounds like great swap Mike. :)
kuntrygirl your lambs are so cute! I have never even eaten lamb. I just can't bring myself to buy it in the store because its so expensive. Maybe some day I will be able to raise a few and then I can try it. What breed of sheep are they?
Thank you! I have Barbado and Kathadin sheep. And yes, lamb is expensive in the store. A local ethnic market sells lamb and I stop in from time to time to check out the prices. I surely wouldn't be able to afford lamb at those prices.e
Whoo-hoooo!!!! Saturday! Julie LOVE all your babies! so cute!! Busy day here -- have tomatoes to turn into sauce & put up!
Thanks. Homemade tomato sauce. Yummy.
Had a really awkward convo with my 80-something year old neighbor. I cam back from Breakfast and she was just staring at my coop. Her: What is that thing? Moi: It's a coop Her: What? Moi: A chicken coop Her: Hohhot.. nooo!!! Those things are a mess! Moi: Well they aren't going to be free range and it will only be 2 or 3 so you don't have to worry about it them making a mess on your property. Her: I used to have chickens when I was a little girl. You know those things fly, I don't want them in my yard. Moi: Well they will be in their coop and run all the time so it's no need to worry. Her: I don't want those things flying into my yard! Moi: They will be in their coop. Her: And they poop everywhere I don't want them pooping in my yard! Moi: They will be in their coop. Her:Just make sure they don't poop in my yard. Moi: Okay ( just gave up and went to my house) I wish people would understand there isn't just one way to raise chickens nowadays. I know this probably wont be the last I hear about my future chickens.
Not good at all. Good luck with that.

You were busy busy this weekend. Going back to work and getting rest is always good. Someone told me that this morning. :gig

Good luck on the eggs. I felt the same way about the pea eggs. That is the ONLY reason I put them in with some guinea eggs.

I know the chickens had a great time roaming today. Princess was out roaming and 13 turkeys came from all directions and tried to attack her. I don't think they will try that move again. She tore into ALL of them. I didn't realize the jumping and flying skills all done at the same time and landing about 3 feet away from her original spot. By the time the turkeys looked up to try to find her she had already put on her air shock shoes and had jumped to the next spot. I recorded it and will try to download and post it.

Good luck on finding a cell phone. So many options.
