"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Just saw on the Baton Rouge paper an ad: Free wooden pallets. Good condition. Call 225-278-2273.

If this was close to Kuntrygirl, she could get those pallets and build a palace. Lol!

I would love to find some pallets that are only heat treated, not chemical. They are required to mark them now which is awesome! I want to find 2 or three and use them to make a raised strawberry bed. If I find them I have to get Superman to bring them home for me though ;) That can take some doing since he is so busy, lol. I don't want the chemical treated ones to be near my food plants.

Thanks for the comments about my MIL. Its the ball socket of her shoulder. I am hoping its not too bad once they get in there to fix it. Going to have to make some good food to share.

What about the Gumbo Recipe?

I brown my sausage then throw in my diced bell peppers, onions, and celery. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder. Once my veggies are transparent I fill the pot about half chicken broth and half water. Once that comes to a boil I add my roux. Some times I buy jar roux some times I make my own if its for gumbo. Any time I cook chicken fricassee or meatball stew I always make my own. Cup flour and cup cooking oil. Anyway depends on size of pot on how much roux I use. Any wheres from half of a pint jar to full pint jar or more I like it tick tick.. lol Once that desolves I let that simmer for about 30 minutes then I add my well seasoned chicken that let it cook about 45 minutes at least and thats if im in a hurry. I usually let simmer after that but chicken usually takes at least that long to cook. longer the better well depends on age of the chicken when butchered. Thats it. Oh add hand full of chopped green onions few minutes before serving and always taste. Dont forget potato salad got to have dat!

I lost my oldest hen this evening. She wasn't doing well the past couple of days, just sort of laying around & not as active as usual -- she was 9 years old. A splash Rock. I hatched her years ago. She was a good hen. She went peacefully & I think, had a good life.

We had one of the peas get out last night -- I went to lock the hens up & found Burtis on top of the pea pen!! - he was perched on the end beam so I was able to walk up to him & grab his feet & then bring him to the ground & pin his wings. I have a few scratches & bruises but he is back safe inside & Jim & my Dad spent this morning reinforcing & tightening the wire over the top of the pen -- a piece had worked loose & that's where he had gotten out, we think - it was a fluke. I"m so glad it was my yearling & not one of the older mature males! They are a real handful when they want to be.

Have a good night all, time to go to bed here!

So sorry about your hen. At least she lived a good life.

LemonMeringue - I hope your MIL does well with her surgery and they will be able to repair the damage.

Terri - I'm sorry to hear about your hen. Wow, though! What a wonderful long life she had!
