"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I have a big tub of those here I put a bunch of rotten potatoes in it and covered it where the varmints and chickens couldn't get to it and destroy it but theres a crack in the lid and the top for the flies to come and go its a gross mass of wriggling (nutritious) vermin in there I throw in kitchen scraps ever so often to keep things a stirring and writhing along :sick LOL

Jeff

What do you use them for? do you feed them to the chickens? i have a lidded trash can in the chicken yard to throw garbage in and one day I had masses of bugs: dark colored, almost like a short dark centipede type bug. The girls went crazy, so I let them have them and ever since they get excited if I go near that garbage can. Don't know what kind of bug they were.

X2. Maybe I just don't know enough.

Thats what there is a lot of most of the time, ignorance of situations to sum it all up. If everyone really really truly knew what their birds ate, the weak stomached ones would have a difficult time for sure. Chickens are right there next to a Buzzard in eating every rotten nastyazz thing they come across, and Ducks what do you think is in the bottom (bed) of the water hole they feed in. Fish all kinds of bugs, critters in there eating too and what goes in must come out and most of all that(crap) sinks to the bottom and then the ducks get them a big ol' mouthful of that yummy stuff(to them)

and filter all that out and swallow it then they excrete their portion of it out their backsides and so on and so forth. Ah ha such is the big ol circle of like huh? LOL

This is why the creator has given every living thing IMMUNE systems to handle what we/they can't. Generally its the stuff we can't see that gets us, the stuff we can see is virtually harmless usually, it may smell a little nasty but it WILL wash off. LOL

Yes. BUT....if you aren't keeping your coop clean and the larvae are eating the chicken poop then they can make your chickens very sick and even kill them. If they are feeding off compost bin or food scraps, they should be safe to feed to chickens. ;)

I'd say if you already have a diseased coop of birds yes in a healthy flock what would be in the poos esp after the bug ingest it and metabolizes it should be sterile the outside stuff is already in their surroundings. J/S

All the chicken meat sold at Wal-mart is from birds raised in houses where the poop is the litter they don't completely clean out those houses between flocks UNLESS there is a disease or contamination of some sort. They don't have a high mortality rate from this or they would soon fold under and be out of business and for sure if folks were getting sick from it they'd have to shut the doors too.

Hey there Lay-ers. Does anyone know where I might find a Wood Duck hen for sale or that needs to be re-homed? My duckling is growing into a gorgeous drake. I know it's a long shot but I'm going to install a Wood Duck nesting box in the yard in hopes that he might hang around. I would like to introduce him to a hen before he flies off to find one on his own and never returns.
Thanks in advance for any leads you send my way.

Efowl.com has sexed wood ducks for sale.

I just got my broilers in. All came in alive and active, got 57 instead of 50 paid for. If all make it to processing day than the cost per lb has already reduced. Has anyone ever used this grogel plus b? I've never lost a chick and haven't used this stuff before, but they sent it for free. It looks good by the label, just haven't dealt with it before. Wish me luck!

Good morning ya'll. I have a question......... Would it be safe to say that if someone can't afford to buy chickens, then they probably can't afford to buy feed to feed the chickens they bought? I'm just saying.

Have a good day! :frow

Really??? They need to look into something cheaper like a goldfish. I would be less concerned with the feed costs as there is always a way to stretch your dollar while still keeping them full and healthy. (IE: Free ranging and FF together) The bulk of what I had spent so far has been on building housing, bedding, med kit (emergencies, poultry dust, dewormer, and vitamin supplement), and countless waterers and feeders until I found the ones I prefer. Someone needs to come up with a pamphlet about the true cost of owning a wonderful flock, there is no pound for chickens.

I have a "stalker" who continues to email me and ask me what I have to sell and the prices. When I email this person back, their standard response is, "Oh, I can't afford that." Why in the heck do they continue to email me???????!!!!!!!!!!!!
