"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Yes, I have seen Walmart at that time. Not good. Pretty soon when times get hard, your neighbors will be kicking the door in instead of knocking on the door for food.

They can have the wild ducks and geese in the pasture but if they ever think about getting between my kids and their food supply, they can meet my really pretty Colt and Rugger.

AMEN!!!

Makes you wonder sometimes. I look at my nieces that live "in town" and they think chickens are gross!!! I guess food just comes from a restaurant for some?

I am intrigued by the idea of having some meat birds, but I'm not ready to do that yet. I think I will need to get my next place set up before I try that. I don't have the storage at our current place. I think my husband also needs to start seeing the benefits of the eggs first. I also haven't tried canning yet, but hope to carve out some time to learn one day soon.

I get excited thinking about learning both of the above. My friends think I've lost it.

But wait until I start getting eggs...maybe I can start something around here...
Yes we were having chicken and dumplings once upon a time. During the meal I mentioned something about how good of dumplings that homegrown rooster made and she headed towards the kitchen to proceed to dispose of her bowl and food, while all the time asking this is one of my chickens i raised I said yeah and butchered "ain't" it good. She said to don't ever ever mention the likes of it again she'd just much rather think/or know that her chicken she was eating came from WAL-MART I said WHa WHat!

Dammed kids these days "some ain't worth the effort it'd take to slap the crap outta of em"

Now Catdaddy, you just haven't been around the right ones. Lol.

And she loves chickens, goats, horses, pigs and cows. And she's a pretty little thing. Lol. Just saying. Lol

btw, if ya'll look at the sticky on top of the recipe thread, in the recipe index are several canning recipes both water bath & pressure, and also recipes for pressure canning chicken & meat.

I guess I need to get Jim to building a chicken plucker & bite the bullet on the meat birds when it gets cooler this fall.

Ok I edited my post to "Some" alrighty LOL

Some is fair... PrimroseMom1, she's beautiful!! I can't show my 8 yr old the picture because of the rabbit! I'm fighting that battle right now. His teacher has a rabbit as an indoor pet. Not happening at our house! I already have 3 piggies (husband and sons) living in the house!

I find that most kids these days are eager to learn. In some cases, you just have to get them away from their parents (opinion) long enough for the kids to form their own opinion.

The kids that we have come over, may start with a preconceived idea about horses, chickens, etc. but tend to leave with a different outlook. Usually more positive. I did say usually, sometimes they just neat a beating!!!

I have 2 12 week old langshan chicks, a cockerel and a pullet. I haven't had any issues so far.

I guess I got a dud batch of them than. I think they are pretty, but mine go as far into dud that they keep trying to "fly" into the same wall of the coop. I only have one side without windows or doors and every day at about 2 all three try to fly into it. I know mine are pet quality but they seem to be missing a few marbles even for that.
