Time to grab the oldest can of gas you have...
Well, maybe not because she will call in an Intervention STAT.
Now this is getting interesting...please be sure to video this and share!!You are right. I better call my psychiatrist to give her a heads up because of that last fire "thing" that I was involved in.Well, maybe not because she will call in an Intervention STAT.![]()
The ants piles were made within 2 days. Those little devils move fast. Time to get out the camouflage outfit, boots and war paint. Sounds like a party to me.![]()

Ok. I will try to set up the video and record myself.
Make sure ya'll watch the 10:00 PM new tonight. There may be a feature story about a lady with chickens who started a fire in Opelousas.
There is a thread, 'fireants are pests to me' I think, have to find it. I have an invasion. Everywhere. So I chimed in on that thread and started trying home remedies (safe for kids/chickens/dogs) and there's tons of suggestions. I have used gas...petrol products of all kinds are great fire ant killers even if not lit on fire, but also huge pollutantsits not somethin I did again nothing grew there for 4 years! Lol doh.
So far I've tried plain sugar (fireants aren't sugar seekers and many old control methods had suggested it. They moved but nit far. Then tried a molasses drench in the coop because that's what I use 2x's a year to keep ants out of the garden beds-works great, not so much on the coop area, dunno why lol. But the molasses granulars work much better in larger areas. Just spread like a bait (its not a bait or a ant killer-it annoys them quickly and they leave lol)
I have been working with grits and cornmeal of ALL kinds - nope its a wives tale...fireants don't eat solid food. They turn solid food to liquid and consume. Ug.
Cornmeal plain hasn't work for me but on that thread someone has a recipe with a cornmeal/poision mix- safe after rain? I have a huge amount of granular spread poison ready to go as a last resort after the coop get remodeled may have to pen the girls and treat.
Fire ants can never be eliminated in Louisiana but they can be controlled, so far effectively only with poisons but I'm trying all I can 1st lol
Easiet I have found is "moving them" disturb a mound, flood a mound, mow over it, take a shovel and flip it over and leave, do mess with them daily...water flooding moves them fast...they move a few feet...find an area away from grazers, kids, people or water source. Push them that way, it'll Take a few weeks if you have as many as I do but I move them towards our burn pile...then kill as many as possible, hehehe, won't really make a real dent but will clear the yard you need for other things without poisons.
Time to grab the oldest can of gas you have...
