Every serama I have hatched go right into sleepy comas when you rub the bellies. This is the 5 week old cockerel Dewey. I took this a few minutes ago. They really do play dead well, don't they?

Same here. I just sit back and watch them spend all of their money make other people richer and wonder how can they throw their money away like that. I'm more comfortable in a holey pair of sweat pants, or shorts and shirts with stains and holes in them with flip flops and crusty feet (oops TMI. - too much info on the crusty feet).

I'm easy. I'm far away from being a fashion statement. I make another kinda statement - "Comfortable".

I am like that at home.....all comfy and NOT ever ready for company or going to the store. We have a nice Dr Scholl's bubbling foot bath for those crusty feet! It really helps after gardening barefoot. Lol! I like to put in some sea salt or Epsom salts with a drop of peppermint essential oil and a drop of Geranium Rose Essential oil. Just sit back and let it bubble the stress of the day away.......

the only 'fad' i have interest in participating in, is raising fresh foods at the house.

not sure if that's a fad though, since it's kinda what my grandparents (who raised me) did, and their parents, etc.

If that is a FAD then I am proud to be following that one. That would be my one and only, lol.

Yeah.... for $75 I'll stick with getting hatching eggs!! More gamble but I can get over a dozen eggs for half that price. Heck, I got my first two seramas as free eggs when I bought some d'uccle eggs. It's so funny watching Rya walk around next to my bantam polish hens. She looks like a chick but has the attitude of a chicken the size of a jersey giant.

I have had mine done at a shop a time or two. That just isn't for me. I just can't get past the idea of how many other people have had their tootsies in those foot baths. That's why I got one of my own. The only thing I would like mine to have (that it doesn't) is self heating. I put the water in hot and it does the bubbly and has rollers and bumpys to rub your feet across. I got mine at Walgreens. My kids love it too. Now talk about saving $$$. These teens don't go get their feet done at a shop either! That would break the bank.

Welcome to all new eggs. I'm in your neck of the woods.

My neighbor hasn't been able to reach the family she knows we think they went out of town for the holiday . We will keep trying till we reach them. Everyone lets keep trying to find a home for him(the dog) till we know he is adopted

I ve been replanting my raised beds. I have pic's to post tried posting from iPhone which worked in the past. Now it seems the format has changed and its not working.

Those mini chicks sure are cute. I think buck my gsd would think it was a good looking Scooby snack . Too much money for that.

Now I'm off to make lime juice and curd. Has any one else noticed things like limes that use to ripen in November are already fully ripe. P

I can understand spending money on something that will defend the flock and your property like a good dog, but who in the world spends that kind of money on something that would get lost in the nest box????

People that show chickens. Exhibition stock from reputable breeders who have won many shows is not inexpensive: People who want to win at shows will pay through the nose for a bird from proven stock. I raise Cornish and a pair of Bantam Darks out of winning lines from one of the top breeders in the country START at $100 for a pullet and $200 for a cockerel....each. For one of the top lines of Buff Orpingtons in the states, juvenile birds are $150 apiece plus shipping. Top breeders not only ask, but get these prices. Why? They have YEARS of selective breeding invested in their line of birds. Anyone who purchases one has just saved themselves years of work by starting with exceptional stock.

Now, I am pretty thrifty and have NEVER purchased a new designer ANYTHING: I get anything I need like that from eBay or an overstock type discounter (even then it is VERY limited). I like the Coach messenger style handbags, but at $130 they can keep them: I got mine off eBay for under $30. Heck, I don't even like eating out since I know I can make an entire meal for my family for the price of one dinner.

However, when it comes to my show birds cheapness is off the table. If I need a bird to improve my breeding program I will buy it if or when I can afford it: For instance, I am getting a quad of Dark Cornish Bantams from Oregon in a week or so. If you show, it is best to pick a couple of breeds to invest into and concentrate on them. I do New Hampshire, Cornish, and Barred Rocks right now. However, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for a backyard hobbyist to buy expensive birds for lawn ornaments unless they are rich.

Probably not that much. Like in dog shows the money comes from getting top dollar for their offspring an stud fees that if chickens are used for stud. When you think about it it's probably no money when you add top quality feed,top birds.travel to shows,entry fees,etc. most people do it for the love of the breed and showing.

The lady that drove from New Orleans to buy some of my peas sent me pics. I could cry they are so stinkin' cute !!!!!!!!!!!

I am always worried who I sell my babies to, so I always follow up with them. When I saw these pics, I was relieved to see that they were in a loving home and that she does spend time with them. But then again, this is the person that brought a hot pink, studded carrying case lined with carpet and probably a heater installed in it to deliver them back. When I saw that, I knew that she would be a great owner.

I can't get over this last picture with the little one standing up all his little feathers already. Soooo cute!
