My first one to hatch out of my 12 mixed gold wyandottes. So cute.

Aww! So cute. I love baby chicks. :love
I'm fixing to try my hand with an incubator. I borrowed one from a friend and I'm gonna try to hatch some Splash Marans. If all goes well, im going to be trouble. :yiipchick

Hooray Pam!! You win. aND I will never ever forget my first egg. I hope you got fotos.

I took pics. I have tried to post from my iPhone but its not working. I have a appointment with the apple store next week to fix another problem I'm going to bring this up too. It's the size of a large pecan. Great for a 1st egg. My last flock had R I Reds her 1st egg was the size of a quail egg.

I am pretty sure now that she is broody. Half an hour after I removed her eggs yesterday she went on the roost. I had removed them at 9:30 at night. She stayed out today until about 5pm foraging and hanging out in the meat chicks pen (door open for free ranging). Then she hopped in the nesting box, moved all eggs under her, and stayed. I have seen her turn around twice so far and when she does it looks like she is rotating the eggs. Is there anything I have to do for her or will she come out for food and water? She is only 9 months old but seems intent on sitting on the eggs. If I remove her to clean the box then put her back will she still sit on them? How often do you guys clean the box for a broody?

If I'm not mistaken. You are talking bout a hatch lift. It looks like a small shock. They run about 25 to 35 bucks. Just so happens I run a parts store in lake charles. Take a pick of what you need and send me a pm. Be glad to help.

Hey luvmychicken! I also live in Lake Charles, well, actually Grand Lake, maybe we can do some swapping sometime lol

If she dedicated she will stay the duration and rear the chicks but if not there's not a whole lot you can do except be ready with the incubator I reckon. She will come off the nest for feeding and water time and poop time you should not have to mess with the nest I suggest to leave it/her be they don't poop the nest while setting they will do their own deal. Every time you mess with those eggs you take a much much more of a chance of them not hatching. J/S she will either do it right or wrong human intervention here is not good so don't over do what their instinct is there for. My suggestion that is.
