"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Morning people!

I have a sickie home from school today. I think she is more exhausted than sick. Sometimes you just need to sleep it off. I am currently torturing her with Oktoberfest music on the "Sounds of the Season" channel. Hahaha!

Hubby helped me do some more cleaning on the coops yesterday. I still have a few things I want to do to the old one. I am just going to replace some wood in a couple of places. You just can't clean wood that too much water damage. He fed the girls their evening treat of mealworms. It was pretty funny since he NEVER does that. They attacked.....Pahaha!

The Neem treatment that was used on the chickens was equal parts neem and cold pressed virging sunflower oil. It was not fun for the hens that were older. They were seriously offended at being forced to hold still for a minute. I used a small plastic disposable pipette that I a bunch of for soaping. It was easy to do a single drop with the pipette. When I treated I didn't see any egg clusters as I have seen mentioned on a lot of pages that I had read. And none of them seemed to be seriously infested. That was good news for me.

I am starting a blog.....

so that it will be easier to share things like gluten free recipes, gardening, canning recipes etc. I am getting plenty of requests from people on my fb for things like that.

Hope ya'll stay out of trouble today!
Sleep is good and undervalued. You don't always have egg clusters. I had a girl that passed a couple of days after I got her because she came with a bad case of lice and I never saw egg clusters on her. I did everything I could for her she was just too weak to make it. When you get the blog up and running give us the link!

When I went out yesterday morning to let the girls out, they were already out. It actually took me a moment to realize that I had not locked them up the night before. I was lucky, I counted beaks and everyone was there. The other morning the hardware cloth was bowed out on one of the coops as though something with hands tried to pull the coop door open (possum or coon??).
My bunnies came back from 2 days at the vet getting fixed. They had big appetites and twitched their noses to say in bunny language "whew, let's not do that again!"

So, we have found out that we fall apart without our esteemed leader, Kuntrygirl. Glad you are ok and back with us!!

My health insurance provides free gyms. So, this morning I will try "gentle yoga".

So, good morning. And, how are you.

I glad to hear everyone did ok with the little oops you had. The other night it started getting dark and I realized that I hadn't shut the door to the run and coop yet. I ran outside and it appeared that everyone was in the coop, but it was too dark to tell for sure. I went back to the house and just had a bad feeling, so I got a flashlight to see in the coop. When I looked, one was missing. It turned out to be Stinker (golden lace polish) our sweetest "special" chicken. She had lost everyone, so after much looking, I discovered she had gotten up on one of the black trailer's wheel wells and had settled in to sleep. I was walking all around calling her and she finally peeped at me. She had blended in so well, I kept walking by her. Now I do a head count (all 14) at least three times before I relax!

Good morning La-yers! boy this thread has died! How's everybody doing?

No sign of mama guinea. My cousins will be harvesting the soybeans this weekend so I'm hoping that flushes her out of hiding - if, she still is hiding & not dead. I"m really worried about her. The rest are all doing fine. I"m guessing the broodies should be hatching their eggs any day now.

The Wellie roo who is the bottom of the rooster list - he's the one w/the broken toe - he's decided to live under our carport. He follows Jim around like a dog. Doesn't have anything to do w/the flock whether they are free ranging or not. It's funny to see Jim outside & this roo wandering around after him. Jim named him Crip.
Roosters make good dogs... They eat any scraps, make a lot of noise at intruders, and attack to defend. As a bonus you also get a reliable alarm clock that flys and you never need to replace the batteries or worry about the power going out.

People are up? I missed the memo... There is nothing common about common core, didn't you know common sense went out the window years ago. These kids are graduating HS knowing less than what I learned in kindergarten. It's just a ploy to buy a few more years without parents jumping down their throats. If there is anything you want your kids to learn it is best to teach them yourself and use school to teach them social skills (something the teachers have no control over).

Some of the parents are really up in arms over this change. My two boys go to a catholic school, and I'm not sure what I think about some of this. I almost feel sorry for the school office, they have been getting so many phone calls on this. Overall I'm pleased with their school. I'm just seeing some "funky" Math. It was teaching them (2nd grade) that when they want to add 23 + 57 = They should do the following:

20+50= 70
3+7= 10
70+10=80

Why can't they just add 23+57?
I've got a call into the Dean of Academics to discuss. I can't tell you how many friends/parents called me about it last night.

We also have a new Religion teacher for their grade. She's teaching them things that are just too "over their head" and not age appropriate for 2nd grade. The study guides for the second grade tests look like 4th or 5th grade study guides! Next phone call...

I agree with you about the "common sense"...it's not so common these days!!!

They were seriously offended at being forced to hold still for a minute. I used a small plastic disposable pipette that I a bunch of for soaping. It was easy to do a single drop with the pipette. Each chicken received 4 drops total. One on the back of the neck, one under each wing and one under the tail. Each drop went onto the skin. When I treated I didn't see any egg clusters as I have seen mentioned on a lot of pages that I had read. And none of them seemed to be seriously infested. That was good news for me.

I'm working on quoting a new construction home...(I do the quotes, etc. for my husbands business) This house has 5 fireplaces!!!!

Four inside and one outdoor. We've done three fireplaces for people, once in a while four (living, kitchen, master bedroom) but five is a new one to me!! WOW!
These plans are giving me a headache!!!

The whole process started because parents are complaining because they saw something on TV about how bad the schools are. The truth of it is not just the schools, but also the parents are the problem. Now the good parents have to deal with what the school systems think are easier to learn methods. When we went to school our teachers had some say in how they taught us with an outline of what they had to teach us. This led to different points of view and us being forced to think for ourselves (ohhh...what a shame...). Also, our parents looked at what was going on and made sure the teachers didn't get out of line. Nowadays, most parents are too busy or too lazy to pay attention to what is being brought home, what the child struggles with, and what the teacher has to say about the process. Kids are not expected to think for themselves anymore and everything is biased on them passing the performance test. I am placing religion aside because I don't know how they determine what to teach and when on that. The cracks in the system are just too grand and the entire thing needs a rehaul, unfortunately we will not see it while our kids are in school. Not only is the math weird, have you seen the English taught at some of these schools?

What are they going to do with 5? Also, do they understand they need to be cleaned on a regular biases? Too much work too often for something pretty.

I agree about the lack of parental involvement. Even in the private schools you see it, though not as much as some public. I don't like to paint with a broad brush. We have those parents that want to be "big fish in small pond"...they are the ones that don't do anything, because it's beneath them. Me, I don't want to "chair" anything, just tell me what needs to be done, and let's figure out how to do it.

When my oldest was going into kindergarten, I went to see the public school for our area, I cried! Then I looked up and saw that they were almost on "academic probation". (The school is doing better now, however, I'm not moving the kids. It's a strange distance thing that's hard to explain. Their public school is 18 miles in the opposite direction of where we work/ build. I have factored in gas cost into our private school equation). At that point, I started looking at private. I found the one I loved, then found out how much it cost and cried again. Then I found the one we are at. It's not fancy. My husband and I bust our butts to be able to afford it. Overall I like what I see, and this new "stupid Math" will change. The school is really good about listening to the parents. We just have to make enough noise.

That's what her maid is for!

They seem like nice people...I just wouldn't want something that big...I don't have a maid (unless I put a uniform on).

Too old for that!
