DE is more of a preventative than a cure. For the sake of my birds’ health, I’d pull out the big guns for this one. Do a search for what works. I’ve never dealt w/mites but I remember Adams Flea & Tick spray and Sevin dust or the spot-on Ivomec. Seems like there is something else that is spot-on but I don’t remember the name of it.MITES! We have mites...again! They seem to LOOOOOVE the duck/goose house and pen. Not sure if my chicken coop has them, but I'm going to assume they are there since the ducks/geese and chickens free range together.
Hubby sprays with something that is safe for the birds (forgot the name...sorry.) but it is obviously NOT working. I picked up a duck egg this morning that was crawling with mites. grrrrr! I went out a little while ago and powdered their whole area and house with DE. (And dusted the chickens just to be safe.) I guess the only thing I can be certain of is that ~I~ am mite free. I think I got more on me than anything else. :/
Any suggestions? I am coming to you guys because I know they are harder to kill here than other parts of the country thanks to our lovely *temerate weather* that doesn't kill anything off in the winter.
That’s ALL you have to say?! Are you sick?Good morning everyone.
Frontline spray! Spray them once behind their neck with the tip pressed up against them and once again by their vent in the same manner. Repeat in two weeks if you want but I have never had to.MITES! This will keep them off, but will it kill the ones in their coops? The duck house floor is apparently just covered considering how many were on this egg. (It had sat for a few hours. She was laying it around 7 am and I picked it up when I went back out around 10 am)Frontline spray! You can DE the coop but I believe they need a host to survive. Spray your birds taking away the host and the birds will be protected for about 30 days. In about 2 or 3 weeks spray them again and that should solve the problem. This will keep them off, but will it kill the ones in their coops?
