"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I didn't know VULTURES would go after my chickens and ducks! I walked out just in time this morning to see one swooping down at them! And 7-8 of his *friends* in a tree waiting. They totally didn't care that I was there. Just sat there and gawked at me!!! Got to looking around and there were at least 8-10 across the road (way off) circling over something on the hunting lease/timber company land. No doubt something dead...probably what drew the ones to my yard.

Been contemplating buying a gun for predators. (Please, lets not debate this...) This is making me think it is time. :(
the alternative to my .410 & 12 gauge is a PVC pipe tube Jim uses to shoot bottle rockets out of.

I was hoping to put more faces to the Lay-ers at the show, but didn't meet many.

. Terri where were you? Pam? Anyone?
I was there over 2 hours w/my Mom -- didn't see even when I asked around!!! Maybe we'll get some new members because I sure was pushing us! Mom was getting tired so we bugged out around noon. She had a hot air balloon tethered flight before we left town so she had a very full day -- and had a blast!! -- we talked all the way there & all the way home -- what a TERRIFIC WONDERFUL show!!!!! Bet you she's sound asleep right now, lol!

Omigosh I had no idea NO IDEA they grew chickens that large --- and that small! and that beautiful! Seriously, I thought I had a couple of big roos -- but that went to a whole 'nother level! those were monsters!!! NOW I understand the difference between "heritage, breeder, show quality" and the rest. I get it!

This was just AWESOME & eye-opening. I think my addiction just went to a new level.

I took some pics but none do the fowl justice, I'll upload tomorrow, my camera battery died!

I want true Aracauanas. Good Lord, they are so pretty & unique & I LOVE LOVE LOVE the "ear tufts" on them!

and call ducks -- my gosh, they were so sweet & so darn cute!!! Did you know they "whisper" -- my heart just sank.... if I had a place to put them, I'd have them in a heartbeat & i NEVER thought I'd say that about a duck.

and Seramas - so perky & tiny & cute!

& OE games -- didn't know they were that tiny!

Seabrights - so pretty!

Silver lace wyandottes -- gorgeous coloring!

My Cuckoo Marans roo could've beaten that one I think - but my hens, I don't know. Two of them look good compared to what I saw today, two are not that good.
My Welsummers are as good as the ones I saw, I think - but again, my hens need to be bigger.

It was a wonderful day and experience & I thank all of you who helped put it on -- and HEY! -- look for me next year -- I might just be competing!!!

You know the best thing I liked about the judging was that the name of whomever bred or owns the bird was NOT on the cage tag -- OK that's cool, so unless the judges personally have run into that bird before & recognize it, they don't know who owns it -- that is so fair, eliminating bias & politics ( I know some of that goes on anyway, but still), I liked that.

5 star rating from me!

My granddaughter and I helped with concessions at the chicken show. In my humble opinion this show has been a roaring success. Can't wait for next year. Congratulations to all the people in Gulf Coast that worked so hard and to the winners
I remember seeing your daughter -- I came there to find the lady who was selling the nest boxes! SO sorry we didn't get to introduce ourselves but see you next show for sure!

Terri, sounds like you had a great time with your mom and at the show. I wish that I could get that excited about seeing different breeds of chickens.
if you'd been there, you would have, really. It was unreal. Seriously. I had no idea. I know a lot about show Cockers, and Paso Fino horses, but these kinds of chickens--- thought I'd seen some stuff at our little Parish fair, nope .. this was a whole nother level. Wow. Just wow. I had no idea you could grow chickens that big.

I've been to a few other chickenstock events, but this -- Wow. I just want to hatch & grow some chickens that big. And get some of those sweet little tiny call ducks - and I NEVER thought I'd want a duck! and maybe some Seramas - they were so cute w/their poofed out chests! & the Seabrights were so pretty.... OK I'm repeating myself; I'll shut up now. Suffice it to say, Mom & I had a fabulous, wonderful day -- we'll cherish the memories of this day.

And there's always next year to go see, if you want to. If not, no big deal; it's not everybody's thing!

It was really cool, Terri. I also didn't know chickens can be so big and would love one. I saw an egg that one of the big RIR's laid and it looked just like Primerose's eggs, so their eggs aren't bigger. I already volunteered for next year. I'm so proud of our Louisiana club putting on such a first class show. Some people came from pretty far away. Those were super cool nesting boxes and I bought some of that goat milk soap for Amanda and I. She loved bathing with it tonight. Well done guys!!

Doesn't sound like my kinda thing but thanks anyway. All of us are different with our chicken hobbies and different is good. It would be boring if we all liked the same stuff. Diversity is always good.

Glad that all who went had fun.
