"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

My feed bill much less my hay bill is cheap compared to my next door cousin he leases our cow pastures he just spent 5000 smackers on round hay bales for his bulls(maybe winters worth) and I wouldn't even want to guess his feed bill he uses a super sack(ton?) of feed(grain) a week I can go 3+ months on one LOL I gather my own hay for the chickens during mowing season, its free(cost of gas+ rakeing LOL) but hey you gotta mow the lawn right? LOL  My feed bill? yeah we don't even think about it, its happy thoughts :clap  and how much I love :love  them and my hobby, LOL

Jeff

With my horses, the feed guy calls every Wednesday morning to see how much I need delivered that week. It's CRAZY, but it's one of my "jobs". My chickens are my hobby and I have enjoyed them so much! As far as hay goes, I swipe a little here and there for my chickens. They LOVE scratching through all the leftover hay in the stalls. When I clean stalls, I have 4 or 5 chickens that follow me from stall to stall while I clean. I guess they're looking for dropped feed.

I agree. My chickens are my hobby. Mine also enjoy scratching through the hay.

Wow. I am so humbled and privileged that you guys take my problems seriously and give me your advice and solutions. I'm due for a hay run too. One square bale which will last me a month. NOT the huge squares like those, just a tineey weeny regular bale. These fotos really make real for me the VAST difference between you and Julie and Jeff and others on this thread. Thanks so much for your patience and caring for super little guys like me.

5000 ????????? WOW!!!

When you love what you're doing, it's not about the money at the end of the day. I agree with that. :thumbsup

It's what ever makes us all happy. :)

I'm trying to "grow" my medicine cabinet for my chickens.  I have the tylan 50 injectable, but was reading about the Tylan water soluble for when multiple (if not entire flock) is infected.  Does anyone have any experience with the Tylan water soluble? Or, any thoughts?
Any antibiotics that are a "must" to have on hand?

Thanks,
Laurie

This is what I have on hand for my crew. I would suggest that you read up on all of them before deciding what you want.

Penicillin G Procaine
Baytril is an excellent antibiotic, but it is banned for use in food animals. I ALWAYS make sure that I have Baytril on hand. It can literally save your
bird's life.
Metronidazole (Flagyl), which is also banned. (another excellent med)
Terramycin
Duramycin
Amoxicillian
************************************************************************************
Other Suggestions
Pennchlor 64
Bacitracin
Cephalexin
Agrimycin
Tetroxy HCA - 280
Neomycin (100 GM)

I hope that this helps.

I use the liquid.

Good morning peeps. It's nippy outside. If anyone is going out this morning and you drive by a Rac Trac store, stop in and get a free cup of coffe or hot chocolate. They have been giving it out for free all week until this Saturday. I get a free cup in the morning on the way to work and after work.

Stay warm Layers and get that gumbo cooking.
