"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Exactly!
Good job.

When my nieces and nephews USE to get in "trouble", my brothers and sisters would send them to my house for the weekend and boot camp would begin. I had a list of chores for them to do. Scrubbing the chicken coop with a toothbrush was one of the chores. I'm happy to say they have not had to return to the Farm Boot Camp because they knew the consequences if they got in trouble. ;)

You may be surprised at the number of high school students writing and spelling at this level.

Whoops, you are so right. You know I almost forgot that. Man, I must be delusional. Thanks for the reminder.

The first time with ducks we plucked. After plucking about 3 ducks, the next 30 ducks we skinned. I'm a fast learner.

Crazy question........ How do you get the duck fat? Whatever is drained in the pan is what you use?
You cut slits in the skin on the breast and thigh pieces, like you would a fresh ham, and cook skin side down, low and slow, and the fat renders into the pan. pour the fat into a canning jar or what-have-you, and put into the frig to separate. The water and other non oil juices will sink to the bottom and the solidified fat, that I would use in making the soap forms at the top. What is in between, is liquid GOLD and looks golden yellow in color. This is the part, chefs value the most, to cook with. Chefs will cook with the solids, too, cause they are cooking, not making soap, but I will be doing both, so will save the solids to use in my newest hobby.
The drippings at the bottom are good for gravy, but separate it, before closing the jar, so it doesn't make your "golden duck oil" go rancid. It needs no refrigeration and will last sitting in a jar, on your kitchen counter for months! I got more than a pint from 4 big fat pekin ducks, but I only cooked ducks a couple times and once didn't drain enough fat and had a very greasy gravy.
I will be using the solids in soap for the first time, as soon as I process some ducks, as I am new to soap making and wanted to get all the chemistry right, using cheaper ingrediences like lard, first. I will be using the duck fat with oils like Shea Butter and Coconut Oil and the different fragrances.
I made a lot of hand soap and laundry soap. I do not make the liquid laundry soap, like so many on you tube do, because 5 gallons of liquid laundry soap takes up too much room, when the same amount washes with powdered laundry soap, takes just over a quart jar, by keeping it dry and not adding all that water or having to deal with sll the goo! I do not use the soft soap that is grated on the big side of a box grater, but use the smaller side and my own home made soap bar and then work it into the dryer ingredients, so it doesn't clump and dissolves faster in the washer. I have a few years supply of soap powder, that has no fragrances, but clean better than the store bought, IMHO. It takes a teaspoon to do a full size load, for pennies, but I missed the Smell of gain, so I bought some Smell of GAIN fragrance, to make the bar soap I put into the laundry powder, smell like GAIN, but it is now curing (drying) slower than usual. I will have to ask Lemon Meringue, if it is because I used too much concentrated fragrance oil, an ounce, to one 1 1/2 pound laundry bar?
Since I have been writing this, my new shipment from Essential Depot, just arrived. I got 2 gallons of palm oil, with free shipping and 5 pounds of Shea butter with a free pound of organic coco butter! They are having a big sale right now, so if there are other soapers that need supplies, you might want to check them out!

Y'all are making me hungry!
You guys talking about food all the time are going to make me gain weight, before the Holidays start! LOL I already had rabbit liver pate on crackers for lunch and cooking rabbit and spaghetti, for supper! Tomorrow, I process at least one 40+# turkeys and if hubby is too busy to help with the hot water, he will be skinned and ground for the freezer. BTW, the little 15# tom fit in the large polly bag, barely, but fit, so there is a chance, the larger ones will fit the extra large bags if they are too big for the shrink wrap bags! I pull as much of a vacuum, as I can on all frozen food.

We roast a turkey in a big green egg. I make everything from scratch. Corn bread dressing with some dried fruit and chestnuts added. sweet potato casserole I bake all the sweet potatoes mash add grade b maple syrup some O J 2 eggs cinnamon and nutmeg. I top it with a crumble topping. Once I had pralines that I crushed and used for the topping that was good too. Roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta and parmesan. Green bean casserole made with fresh green beans, mushrooms etc. I make dinner roles or bread. Ron has to have pumpkin pie every year. I'll make red velvet cake or a dessert called cherries berries on a cloud. Now I just made myself hungry. Pam:lol:
What is a big green egg ?

These people do this to this boy........often I guess is the word. There are days in the summer when everyone is in the house and he is put out. I have seen him stand at the window and ask if he can come in now. He mows the yard. He rakes the yard. He does trash. I never see him with other kids. I know school is hard for him an he has been held back and suspended before. You NEVER know what is going on behind closed doors. So I don't want to be too quick to judge. But he is always sweet and happy when they let his sister come out and play in the yard with him and he as never been rude to us. Always polite, if broody and seemingly depressed. But I do have personal experience with expert liars. But watching and seeing the parents pattern of behavior is fact, not asking the kid. I didn't know if it was actually against the law, to leave a kid in the yard. I think it terrible! Immoral and cruel. After I asked the boy some questions he seemed surprised that I would act shocked at what they had done. He did say he had thought about going to the police dept because its close. After he thought about it for a few minutes he came and told me that he was going. He walked since it is close.

The catch is that I don't STAY outside for as long as he does. So I can't say that its been 3hrs or whatever that he has been outside on any given date. Except for one day when they LEFT. We were working outside and he sat back of the yard for hours, doing nothing but being depressed. Not talking to anyone. It was a warm day, but I was still so sad for him. I can always tell if he has been put out by just his body language. I don't know how this kid will ever know how to act like a normal adult.
That's an entirely different situation and I would not condone that kind of punishment. I lived where stay at home moms would put there kids outside as soon as hubby left for work and not let them inside to even use the bathroom, until just before hubby got home. Some Hubbies were heavy drinkers, like my step father was, so I don't know what Moms had to go through, either, so I try not to judge, but some of these kids were pretty mean, too! These 2 brothers, in particular that lived down the block. I was a working mom and lived in the cal de sac, so all the neighborhood kids played ball in front of my house. Every other Friday, I would bring them a huge 3 foot tall bag of movie theater popcorn from Blevins. I worked for a theater company and Blevins would bring me 2 bags every week for the office and one every other week to take home for the kids. The boys would pull pranks, like stapling our garden hose or rutting up the front lawn, peeling out on mini bikes and such, and we were the neighbors they LIKED! Hubby would fix their bikes and I would bring everybody juice and snacks, while they were playing ball, not to mention the bag of popcorn, passed back and forth among 15 to 20 kids, including my own 2 girls. They had a younger sister, that for no reason at all, would run up behind my older daughter and pull out handsful of her hair and run off laughing! I tried talking to the parents, when the would answer the door, but all that would happen, was she would be slapped on the head and they would close the door in my face. I cured the girl, by not inviting her to the monthly slumber parties, my girls had and not allowing her to play in our playroom with the other girls. A couple of months of that, she asked if she could be invited and promised to behave. That problem solved! Two months later the oldest brother, age 17, egged my house and new car, thinking he was cool, while all the girls were at our slumber party, yelling, so everyone saw him and laughed. Hubby just happened to be putting out the trash, at the time. I called the cops and told them the situation and asked if they would scare the boys a little, so they might think twice. The cops told me that they were going to arrest him for damage to property and a few other charges, if I would press charges. Since we had no juvenile facilities where we lived, he would be locked up with grown men, so I could not do that. I asked the cops if they would go explain all this to his parents and tell them, if he came over in the morning and scrubbed the egg off the front of my house, with a brush and soap and pail from home, I would not press charges, but if they did not agree to this or he didn't show up, off to jail it would be for him. The cops really reprimanded the parents because they know he took the eggs but didn't know what he was going to do with them. They threatened the parents with arrest too, for aiding and abetting. The next morning, here he came with pail and brush in hand and scrubbed while all the kids in the neighborhood were invited to come and watch. I felt a little for him, with all the laughing and jeering the kids were doing, but stood my grounds and watched. Then I fixed him a sandwich and sent all the kids home, so I could explain to him if he kept up his behavior, with beating up on the smaller boys and other mastiff, he could end up a kid in jail. He told me the cops made him and his dad visit the jail and showed them where and who he would be housed with. Everything stopped after that and years later, I had a knock at the door, it was him in his marine uniform. He said what happened scared him enough that he really made a change in his life and realized he was not a kid who could get away with things because of his age anymore. He said it kept him out jail, but his younger brother was doing time. Some you can reach, some you can't! You can only try. Please let us know how your neighbor boy turns out? I will be praying for him and God Bless You for caring enough to try to help this kid!
