My neighbor who I have given eggs to has told my husband that the eggs are "rubbery". Is this simply how THEY are cooking them, or is there something I should be doing differently? The first few times I cooked REAL eggs, I found them rubbery too, now I cook them gentler (lower heat) and I find that they cook faster than store ones. Any thoughts?
You gave her eggs for free and she complains. Wow! My thoughts are rude neighbor. Any response besides thank you very much is rude and ungrateful.
She could have asked how do you cook yours?
They're new ZealandsI just got home and didn't wanna disturb her, this is her 1st litter
. Hubby watched. He has a FB video of her eating the placentas...Ewww! Of all the things really? Lol he saw at minimum 3 heads maybe 4 but she was super busy cleaning then and tucking them in lol wasn't gonna have pics but I screen shot one!![]()
x 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I wish I could say how cute but I just can’t quite go there, lol!
My chickens keep raiding the cats food. Can it hurt them? And is it normal for them to want to eat it?
In moderation most like anything else. Cat food and dog food have a more concentrated sodium amount in it than chickens bodies need(protein is a bit much in large doses too) (and too size is relative in all things), an also 2/3/6/8 lb chickens aren't as much mass as a 5/10/15lb cat or 30/50-100 lb dog. A little bit of cat food thrown out ever so often as a treat is fine, but a constant supply of all they can/and will gorge is not! Their excretory systems can't rid the body of the salt and will result in renal failure/problems. I don't want (don't let) my expensive prized one and only's nowhere near or around anything but chicken feed. The dogs get fed a ration of feed 2 times daily therefore none to be left around and NO cats here, the dogs don't allow them to take up residence here.(look to much like critters)LOL So no worries there either.

LOL I see Terri and Julie and I clash a bit here but the key word is in MODERATION LOL
I agree also, in moderation. My cat doesn't leave enough to do anything for a chicken except a nibble.NO, you're right. Moderation is the key. I feed them in moderation like you said. Treats are thrown out every so often but not all the time. And I sometimes will mix some cat food in with the feed but I"m talking about maybe 3 cups of cat food in a 5 gallon bucket. So ever animal may get 10 pieces of cat food if I had to portion it out. But they only get that every 4 months. Cat food expensive.
When I have a bird that is not looking good or feeling well, I will make a mixture of cat food (moistened with water) to a mash and mix yogurt and feed. It gives them that extra boost of energy that they need.
As you stated, Moderation is key.
I bought 3 bags of cranberries before the Thanksgiving holiday. What was I thinking? I could have just thrown them in the freezer but didn't want to take up the space. I had to get them done this week. So now we have 6 jars of cranberry sauce that has a bit of added orange zest/juice and sugar. And some little jars of Cranberry Mustard. My first time making the mustard. WOWZER! That stuff sure will be delicious on a sandwich! Now I want to bake a turkey![]()
My first experience with it as well. The recipe is in one of the Ball cook books and I had all the ingredients so I though I would give it a try. Glad I did. It will go perfectly on a turkey sandwhich.Cranberry mustard?! Huh. Never heard of such a thing. I can't even imagine what it would taste like!Christmas is in like two weeks. There's your good chance and excuse for a nice turkey!![]()
