So pellet gun can kill a possum? I'm guessing the site is accurate. All pellets guns I ever sawmy little brother got for Christmas at age 8, wasn't impressive are they expensive?? I DEFINATELY want to kill all yard possums.

So we have 6 maybe 7 baby NZs. Hard to get a count not disturbing them. I researched Soooooo Frickin much about breeds, breeders, husbandry, health issues, weaning, choosing breeders/meat or pets lol and even butchering. Shoot I have half this litter sold before they were born...yet can't remember a dammed thing about birth to weaning! Omg. I need that "thud" smiley inserted here.
I had a lop when I was young, she had babies the week I bought her! I let her handle them and she did awesome. When they started eating with her we weaned them to a grow out pen.
They were pets tho. Suppose we could have eaten them lol but at the time I was a valley girl in Cali not a Southern farmer in Louisiana!
I'd think these NZs are the same tho right? Mamas got it for a few weeks? When can the young be examined without her freaking out?
I never had a creature not need assistance lol cats, dogs, pigs, hamsters even pet rats wanted help or required assistance due to a cord wrapped around an appendage or even removing still births. But they were pets, these NZs are still warming up to us. The babies are HUGE! As big as hamsters!
I know rabbits hate predators, as much as my aussie loves each animal here and thinks all babies are her baby's, we have kept her and all creatures out of the rabbitry. I wash up before handling does because I had a lop so scared of a puppy once it dropped dead upon sight. I know thats not normal but man it still burned that image into my head lol
But the does know me and my treats, how cautious do I really have to be? We don't wanna lose litters due to rookie mistakes in the 1st few weeks and I get conflicting info about needing to count young, check on each one and other info saying don't touch.[/quote

I'm not a rabbit expert, but I know a little. Normally the mom will start teaching them to eat at about 6 weeks and they can be weaned at 8 weeks. The mom only nurses once a day and doesn't stay in the best with the babies, so don't worry. If their bellies are big like the foto they are fine. The mom walks into the nest and stands there. The babies flip onto their backs and nurse that way. If their bellies aren't full something is wrong and I can walk you through that. My one experience the Mom didn't mind me handling them. First litters can sometimes be wacky. The mom will usually pull out any that have problems to die.

You might be able to get some locally at Lowes or ACE hardware. The Lowes Brand is Roebic. But anywhere you get it just make sure it is 100% sodium hydroxide. You may have to ask for it. Some stores keep it in the back.
