"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

My neighbors dog killed some of my chickens. He has agreed to pay for them so I am trying to replace them. This is what I lost plz let me know if you have some he can buy to replace them

2 blue copper marans. Hens
2 cream legbar hens
3 ameracauna hens
3 rir hens
2 sultan 1 hen 1 too
1 golden laced polish hen
1 rhodebar hen

It is great that he is standing up and taking responsibility for his dog. But I am so sad that you had the tradgity of the loss. It was before their time and terrifying. I do hope you can find good stock. If I was close to you I would part with my Lucy, RIR.
:hugs

Haha, Pam. No, can't find the eggs. I offered my granddaughter $5 if she found any. She looked everywhere and couldn't find them either. I guess I will have to spend a whole day in the chicken yard. Oh, well. *sigh*

I wasn't asking as a smarty!! she can't find them because they are somewhere right under your nose,Camoflaged well. I was thinking I may come to baton Rouge to pottery supply if you haven't found them yet I could bring buck my tracker of buster not a trained tracker but he found my first eggs from my first flock!! Pam

anybody else incubating right now? I'm two weeks in to an incubation, this time next week I should have some chics!
I decided to wait. My last batch hatched in October, so want to see and figure out what to do with all the roos'. Then, I am wanting to add some different breed with more and quicker meat maybe? I havent decided yet...but plan to start incubating in March unless someone orders some chicks.
What kind do you have??

nope not that one i'll try again.

Its a lovely morning, because of no school! Freezing cold here at 29. I may throw some plain navy beans into the pressure cooker to add some heat and stream to the house. Its so different that yesterday afternoon, which was almost perfect, no jacket, weather. My camera got a nice workout yesterday, today editing.

Think ima go with a taco salad tonight. Course all I have is chopped venison...  but i can't decide if i wanna add some dried cranberries and pineapple with a honey mustard and go kinda hawaiian with it or some salsa and sour cream and go mexican?
I do love cooking a lot to get the house warmed up!  Maybe some Paula Dean buttermilk biscuits too...  good to cook like 80% and keep handy in the freezer to send for DH work day breakfasts.
I don't know, I'm still recovering....LOL

This was Saturday Night's dinner. Lobster, Baked Mahi Mahi Fish and a salad. :drool Oh, and I forgot pineapple wine.

That looks so good.

My Girl friend up in Winslow, Flower, in coming down to see her doctor, she stays with me when she dose, so I made some crab ravioli, for her visit. Any one have a suggestion on a good sauce for my ravioli.

She's been keeping chickens for over 30 years. Helped me a lot in my chicken learning curve. She has a cream legbar pullet. She had a roo she said I could have some of the eggs to hatch........... But she likes her sleep. The rooster never stopped crowing. At 3 AM she gave up on having little Cream Legbars. She got them, I believe from a breeder in California.

I gave her my Lemon Cuckoo Marans. This is him shortly before be left.

out of 12 eggs he is the only one that hatched. I didn't expect any of them to make it. When I went to the post office to pick it up. The postman was handling very ruffly. I sad be careful those are fertile eggs, ruff handling will kill them. His reply, "how am I to know what is in side". I pointed to the big 2" red lettering FRAGLE FERTILE EGGS that was written on all 6 sides. He shrugged his shoulders.

Speaking of meaties. I called around to several stores/meat markets to find out the price of broilers per pound but no one sells them. I thought all stores sold broilers. Does anyone know what store or meat market that sells broilers?

Whole foods has broilers, roasters, and cornish. Call they will answer your questions ask for meat Dept. or butcher. Their 4 to 5 lb dressed organic roasters ard 3.99 a lb. I think the regular dressed are 2.99 a lb. Pam

Thanks. I was so surprised that these meat departments didn't know what a broiler was. I had to explain it to them. :/

Today they are meat cutters, not butchers. I had a meat cutter cut up a 7 bone to look like short ribs. I do not think so. :/

I raked out my herb/strawberry bed this afternoon. I love warmer temps! Boy do we need some mulch!!! Its a very small start, but it sure was nice smelling all those herbs. I am going to raise each strawberry plant because I did have so much trouble last year with the ants. I am going to try using a pot with the bottom cut off. That way the plant roots will still be in contact with the ground and be able to pull moisture from the ground. I really have a hard time keeping my pots watered/hydrated in the middle of the summer and I don't want to stress my strawberry plants. I hope this helps with the ant problem!

I also was able to get my photo album updated. https://www.backyardchickens.com/g/a/6596244/southern-luxury-soaps/

And I have to share these pics of Frizz and her boy Jazzie (he crowed in front of me while I was doing the strawberries!) I just think they are the most adorable little critters! And they really are the friendliest of the bunch.
