Sorry, thanks Pam, I understand now.

Hello, I am new here, sorry to here about your hen,I hope she gets well soon. Those pencils are called styptic pencils, they are antihemorrhagic-meaning that it stops bleeding. I don't know if is safe for chickens though. I saw this is for people from Louisiana. I live in Spearsville, near the Arkansas line. Just wanted to say hello to everybody!
Well a BIG HELLO!!!! Welcome! Be sure to check in anytime at all...we are a lively bunch, and tend to jump on just about everyday! Ask away and share your ideas! Glad you came along!

Opened my door, PORCH IS COVERED IN BLOOD! I mean it is dripped everywhere. I look around, it is my Clara! Sweetest hen I have... her longest toe, steadily dripping blood, and her exterior nail is hanging off. I have seen how much they bleed, and ya'll this is a lot of blood. Can't see how it has happened, and dont know if she will live.. but she is eating, and hoping around after I made her sit in a bucket for 3 hours in my washroom in the dark, so she wouldnt move around. I help it for over 20 minutes hoping to stop the blood.
THAT WAS MY FRIDAY......
Now, she is still weak, but alive. Wanted to go back out, so I let her. Seems healing, wary of others and quick movements from the Roos.... anyone ever had this injury happen before??

For future reference...Flour works well and is the easiest in my book to get on. I hope she feels better soon. It may take a few days for her to feel 100% again from the blood loss.

Welcome! We are a strange bunch but full of info on just about everything. Each of us knows different things and it helps everyone out. Remember no question is too stupid! I guarantee if you ask it one of us already has asked it sometime in our chicken keeping career.

Primrose I ordered the worm factory. You had asked if I was buying red willigers and I said no I would go to bait shop or my yard. Well when I ordered they had a special price on the worms plus free shipping. So if you were asking because you wanted some let me know I can add more. Pam

Thanks, Pam. I think my next project this spring will be to enclose the area under the rabbit hutch with lattice and dress it up with some trim, then make one side open like a gate, then put some worms on there. It is suppose to kill any rabbit waste odors and make the best ever mulch for gardens. You have to put a barrior down to keep the worms in, so I was hoping to put a tarp ( I have a place I order them custom size and color cheaper than the blue ones from Home Depot and the quality has been great, I've ordered several) and the dirt and worms on top of the tarp. Then periodically I can just put the tarp out, drag to a flower bed dump and start over. I have been picturing this in my mind for a while and with the shelter finished, I think it may be the next thing.
