I just got my confirmation E-mail I will have birds from two lines they will have bands to tell whos who!!! Now if the weather would cooperate. Still tryjng not to get my hopes up till there here, Pam

So yesterday was a bad day for us all around...one thing after the next all very expensive, all very stressful and sad. We take things in stride and put on our poo-kicker boots and usually wade through til we reach the surface again...yesterday after winding down from an ugly day, hubby sends me a message at work saying were down a bird HUGE bird, he says 6 foot wing span easy and he is NOT an exaggerating guy- plopped down in the yard and the donkey-butt CX ran right at it :/.
These chickens fly for cover if I peek off the porch lol ug. Satan's spawn of a buzzard he thinks (was brown tho not black and had head feathers tho) snatched the 1st 8-9lb CX that reached it and flew off with a screaming bird (not clucking hubby said screams )

And we aren't *allowed* to do a dam thing about it because why? It comes from the sky? Phssst next sky creature in reach might get a bullet I was sooo mad and nothing he could do but babysit them til dusk. I got home and cleaned up bloody feathers, counted to see if it was the only one snatched (it was) and left a pile of treats for dawn when they come running.

Before dawn I awake to honking. Loud loud honking. Whaaaaaa is that?! Ug. It's freezing out I grab my robe and sandels, go look for the honking that the dog is now crying about...

So the dog takes off to get the honking and I follow her about 1/4 mile down to the bayou and tada! Our CX is cold and bleeding and having a drink. Very pissy that I do not have a feeder cup in hand :/
hahaha too fat for even a teradactyl!
By now it was dawn and her sisters needed out

I'll take this as a start to a much better day, even if I am cold and covered in mud.

Are you kidding me ?? That chicken got taken by the talons of a hawk that flew a quarter mile, got dumped, and the next morning honks to come home?? I would have loved to have seen what that chicken did to get let go. Think it was just too heavy ?? Amazing.

I have tried that. It took the High School teacher months to finally get back with me. When he finally did, he was supposed to send a student out one weekend and they never showed. I'm so done with that.

After working with this little guy, I don't think a student can do this job. This is an adult's job. It's too strenuous and it requires strength and endurance. A kid can't do this.

It's so hard to find good hard workers. But when you do, I know you'll hold on tight. I'm sad about the rooster you sold. You're so careful about who you sell to. You just couldn't do more than you do.

I honestly don't think that I will ever find someone. People are just lazy these days.

I wish I would have never sold my rooster. He was so happy where he was at my place. I sent him on a suicide mission. I don't want to sell another animal to anyone.

Remember my kitty's eye was very injured? I literally had an appt to have it removed when I thought I noted some slight improvement. Well, his eye is totally healed. There was even a rather large visible ulcer/hole on the eye. My sweet boy has his beautiful eye back. And he was a great patient. He purred as I put drops and ointment in his eye multiple times a day.

Poor girl. Lol I cleaned her up, her face and sides were cut. She's in the nest box of the layers coop snuggled up. Musta been a long night
The honking was like a goose being mauled :/ not at all chicken sounding. She's still honking, no clucks. Last time we had a close call I should have culled but didn't. THIS time I don't want to. She's loud and scared but moving and eating like she's been gone a week lol ug. I'm gonna let her be and rest. She's easy to spot in the crowd so we can keep an eye on her. I have our pool shark back in the play area near the coops. It was working I guess because wind took it and I put it away for the weather- bam predator. So I drug the big old blue blow up shark with creepy eyes on top back out. Hopefully it'll deter them til processing time (someday soon when we get decent weather.)
