"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Mealworms, and I was referring to the cup of them I found long forgotten in the back of the fridge a year ago that were still freaking alive!! I now have tiny babies in my containers with the ones I've been trying to get started over the last few months.

I'm going to try those too.The ones in my fridge are a month old. I'm going to get a container for them today .

Anyone seen this before? A facebook friend picked up a bunch of battery hens and one has this

she doesn't want to cull if possible because she picked them up specifically so they could range for the rest of days

I asked for details like pooping, eating, drinking? But oh my goodness! Is this infection or internal laying?

If I had to guess I would think Ascites (fluid buildup). I have only heard of it in broilers because of their excessive growth and close living quarters. It is possible that egg production places treat layers the same as broilers and thus getting the same condition. The way to treat it is to drain it with a needle and syringe and provide extra heat. It may have to be drained more then once and antibiotics in the water can help prevent infection from the drain site. This looks exactly like the pictures of broilers with Ascites and over time can cause breathing problems (pressure) and death. If there is no fluid to remove then the only other thing it could be is a severe case of internal laying, though I haven't seen an internal layer go bald on the swollen spot.

Thanks. This bird was in a factory in tight cages.
They're in the UK. She gave her a warm bath & ACV no vet available :( but her new owner is trying her best :) ill forward her the info and links, maybe it'll help.

There is one kind of torch and it is the Olympic torch and it is right now in Russia. But, there is another kind of torch, it is the Kuntrygirl torch that burns in my kitchen. Kuntrygirl, I did in honor of you.

She can drain it herself. Nice of her to take them in!

Anyone ever find an egg in the wash? I am used to surprises in the wash but this is a first for me. Next time I wash jackets I am checking pockets myself!

OK closing schools here again.. Can I hope to not have to go to work tomorrow? Probably not..

Good news: NO SURGERY!! WHOO-HOOO!!!! Meniscus tear is such that it will probably heal on its' own --- other side of knee-- MRI showed just a lipoma, no big deal -- pain is from trauma of knee on concrete plus some arthritis -- I got a VERY VERY painful shot that should kick in w/in 3 days & there ya go. Rock & roll! the whole time I was getting that shot I was chanting" better than surgery, better than surgery" & so was my Ortho Dr. - he is the best!!

OK time to go lock up the birds for the night - have a good one everybody!
