"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks. This project has burned me out and I don't want to hatch anything this year. I'm done for the year and I have not eaten gotten started. :/

People are wanting this chick and that chick and this baby and that baby and I just want to scream cause I don't want to hatch ANYTHING!!! :barnie

My goal was to process 25 this weekend but 25 turned in to 4. It rained off and on the entire weekend. Although I only processed 4, I was happy with the results. The meat looked beautiful. The breasts and leg quarters turned out nice. Not much meat on the back and wings but nonetheless still good. I will use the back, necks and wings for beans.

Here are a few pics of the meat from this weekend. These broilers were 10 weeks old Friday.

Thank you. Yes, I was happy with the process but wish I could have processed more. I loaded my pellet gun and used that as my method. There was minimal bleeding which was great. Not too much mess to clean up. If we can get a full day of sunshine, I think I can do more. I have orders to fill, so I'm depending on the weather to cooperate with me.

Cracked, I got the chicken salad seeds from My Pet Chicken. After the girls scratched everything well, I put the seeds in and recovered with the screens. Now just wait for sprouts. The girls tryed to get the seeds but can't bec the screens are on top.

Those look amazing! Good job!

If you have a bird jump a fence into another pen, how long do you generally wait before deeming them clear from a rooster's mating? I'm seeing anywhere from a week to three weeks, and wanted t know ya'lls opinions.

Thanks. I'm separating hens and cockerels that grew up together, but now need to be placed with their own breeds. I wanted to see how long I should wait before expecting pure bred chicks.

I also just ordered a SOP!

I'm ready to go on improving my flocks.

Okay, I actually just read up on this the other day; from numerous websites/experts. Says to plan on a minimum of 2 weeks, to 2 months that the sperm is still being used in a hens body. Over 4 weeks depends on the strength of the Roo's donation. But, if you are wanting to use a different Roo, said 4 weeks and the age of the previous 'donation' would be weakened, so the new Roo would have new viable contribution to give so the stronger sperm wins out.... BUT every so often a previous Roo donation CAN sneak in. So it said 2 months to be for sure, at least that is what I read.
