"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

My take on it is that you spend time, money and a great deal of effort raising the animals to eat and for eggs. So he is abusing your generosity when he gives away the meat and eggs you gave to him for his own personal use. So, no, I don't think you're being selfish. You're not feeding the whole world for free.

This is a hard one. I totally get it in their mind they think you get the eggs for free. If it was my brother I would say pick me up x amount of feed. I'll pick the feed up when I drop your eggs off! That way he learns they aren't free.

As for your friend that helps you. This time I would give the broiler. You said you would give some for the help their were no stipulations when you told him you would give it to him. Now that you know next time you can say for your personal use. People are so removed from where food comes from. The labor and cost to care and feed etc. it's like they think animals feed their self packs it's bags, takes it's feather coat off and jumps into packaging. They have no clue.

Make sure to tell your brother you need three bags of feed one for your neighbor and one for some friends.:gig

Thank you. So, instead of completely cutting him off, I"ll just lessen what I give him, so he has no choice but to not give everything away. If he continues to give things away, I will stop giving him food completely!

Thanks

Just tell him you are doing it for him. So HE doesn't get taken advantage of. Explain what you have into each animal financially plus your sweat. One dozen eggs a week, period. One piece of meat. period. If he gives that away, none for him.

Kuntry:
It takes too much time, effort, and money to raise these products. If you want to keep giving them away then I suggest setting limits and if they need more they can buy from you just like a regular customer. The limit is whatever you feel comfortable with. For the family member that is eating and giving away soo many eggs, offer to help them get started with chickens. If you give them a few of your layers and a mutt rooster then you are still not out any more because those eggs would have gone to them anyway. If one of those hens breeds likes to go broody then they will have some hatching out and giving them more hens in no time thus more eggs. Then they will also learn how much work and money goes into raising them and respect you more for what you do. It is hard with a kind heart to cut off family but sometimes you have to. There is a line that needs to be drawn.

I think at minimum you should ration his shares if you continue sharing. If you give him a month's worth of eggs - he can have some more after a month. If he gives them away and has to go without or buy his own then so be it. It was his decision to give them away. The meats I wouldn't give myself, not after all that.
