"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Pam, thanks for mentioning not to wrap the leg until the swelling goes down.
Cracked, I sure hope you can find a long term solution for Lucy. It would be so sad to lose her.
Kuntrygirl , I give eggs away to family and friends and I am so happy I haven't had that problem. My daughter gets the regular supply for her family and she hasn't abused it. It would make me upset if she were giving them away. That's a show of disrespect for generosity. She is aware of the level of care and money needed. I do think an awareness of time, care, and money helps get respect for generosity. Could he come work with you on a Saturday to see? Make sure it is a Saturday when you need a Petrus run and clean the yard and coops and maybe give medical care.

It takes too much time, effort, and money to raise these products. If you want to keep giving them away then I suggest setting limits and if they need more they can buy from you just like a regular customer. The limit is whatever you feel comfortable with. For the family member that is eating and giving away soo many eggs, offer to help them get started with chickens. If you give them a few of your layers and a mutt rooster then you are still not out any more because those eggs would have gone to them anyway. If one of those hens breeds likes to go broody then they will have some hatching out and giving them more hens in no time thus more eggs. Then they will also learn how much work and money goes into raising them and respect you more for what you do. It is hard with a kind heart to cut off family but sometimes you have to. There is a line that needs to be drawn.

So true. I know that he will never have chickens because it's too much work and he knows that. He sees what I go through and he could not put the hard work, time and MONEY in it.

Dealing with the broilers over the course of the past few months and dealing with my brother has been an eye opener.

I feel so passionate about continuing to help the elderly in my neighborhood that are on fixed incomes and I will concentrate on the 4 elderly people that I have been helping out for years . If anyone asks me if I have any "extra", my answer will be no because I am committed to helping these elderly people who have no jobs and anyone else how has a job can pay for anything that they want from me.

My 1st priority is self and my 2nd priority is those who need and not those who greed. ;)

That's the same thing I told a friend of mine. That is total disrepect. That would be the same as someone buying feed for MY animals and I turn around and give the feed to the person down the road. :smack

Good idea about the petrus run. He could surely see the ton of feed that I get and the total amount the guy says that I owe after ringing everything up.

And the cleaning is a 2 day affair, so they would probably go home after a few hours because it was too much work.

I hope it gets better before it makes me bitter. :/

ONE of my pet peeves is someone driving up in my driveway and honking the horn for ME to go out to see what THEY want! I'm like HUH! SERIOUSLY????? REALLY???????????? But what makes me happy right after that is knowing that I have had 2 glasses of wine and 2 Tylenol PM and I'm feeling SO GOOD and knowing that I have a lose tongue and I head on outside to give them a piece of my mind while I"m half naked and my hair is not combed with one shoe one. :lau

On that note...... GOOD NIGHT Y'ALL. I had a rough night last night processing until 11:00 PM, not getting to sleep until about about 3ish and waking up at 5:00 AM to feed the babies.

I'M ON MY WAY TO BED!!!!!!!!!! THE WINE AND TYLENOL PM ARE A GREAT COMBINATION !!!!!!!!!!!! :yesss:

I have been watching these posts about people loosing their babies from TSC. What hatchery do they buy from in this state? I am really sorry for you having to go through this! Are you going to have a necropsy done! If so, where?

I had considered buying some from there a couple of weeks ago and now I am SO, SO glad that I didn't!
I know who our local TSC buys from up here... and according to her, each buys from local farmers.... least thats what she said. IF there is a farmer whose willing and able to supply all they need for a lower price and who can supply clean farm licenses and certifications they will buy from them. But she said she has a contract... so I dont know where the rest get theirs from. Except for the one in Shreveport/Bossier... they have a lower Shreveport farmer they buy from. So I really believe it's possible it is from where they get from, that individual store/farmer.

Kuntrygirl's description of what the honker was met with:
I have had 2 glasses of wine and 2 Tylenol PM and I'm feeling SO GOOD and knowing that I have a lose tongue and I head on outside to give them a piece of my mind while I"m half naked and my hair is not combed with one shoe one.

Now, I bet that was one honker that will never honk again!! Haha. Bet you scared them to death!!!!

It is not just our TSC supply. I have been getting reports lately from experienced owners that are having the same problem all over the country. The latest one was from Massachusetts. The only common things are new chicks from TSC, one death of those chicks within 36 hours, no signs of illness, just after feathering out they start dropping like flies, and it effects chicks they hatched out that were integrated with the TSC chicks. Some were lucky and didn't have any of their own hatched mixed with the TSC ones and lost most if not all of the TSC chicks.
