"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Stopping in to say hi.

I hope everyone is doing good. I have been so busy with my new coupon hobby, I barely have ANY time for anything. This is my new part time job. :/

I have found a home for my rooster who was breeding the ducks. :/ He has now taught that behavior to at least 3 other roosters in the chicken yard. Now I have to try to re-direct the others or get rid of them. My roosters are so big, they injured 2 ducks by spraining the duck's legs. The 2 duck hens are in ICU and I am trying to get their legs working again. Too much weight on them caused their legs to give out. I am so mad. The rooster was going in the freezer but he got a last minute stay of execution when I got a last minute email (no joking) from someone wanting to get him. So, I am delivering him to this new owner tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM. The guy has offered tol trade and give me some veggies from his garden and some 5 gallons buckets. JAKE IS OUTTA HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :weee :celebrate

GOOD BYE JAKE !!!!!!!!!!! I WILL NOT MISS YOU !!!!!!!!!!! :celebrate

When you start incubating just know that you WILL lose some, and that its no indication of how good a job you're doing. Some eggs simply won't incubate, and a step after, some chicks simply won't hatch. Plus, some hatched chicks won't survive. Now, if over 80% of your eggs don't hatch, then you have a problem. Try incubating with non expensive or important eggs first, so that if you don't incubate correctly it won't be too bad.

i'm wanting to start incubating soon, but i have never done it, and quite frankly, it scares the living daylights out of me. I'm so afraid I will mess up and kill the poor babies. So, anyone have suggestions on good beginner incubators? Rule of thumb for humidity here in Louisiana? anything else i need to know? Ive been reading on the incubating and hatching thread but would love to hear from some of "my people"

I just had my first hatch from my incabator. I started with 19 eggs and 13 hatched. I read that you keep the temp st 99.5 and hunidity 40 to 50 o/o til lock down then take it to 70-80 . Worked good for me

What brand incubator do you have? Do you use an egg turner or turn by hand? Did you have to keep water in to keep it at the 40-50 humidity? What kind of thermometer and hygrometer did you use?

I bought my bator and turner at tractor supply when they were on sale and I bought a thermometer with a hygrometer built in for about 12.00 at walmart the bator has channels in the bottom. Started it the day before to get temp anh humidity stable. I left it at 99. Just remember it is ok if it gets a couple degrees cooler 96 to 97. No higher than 101.
