"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Haha, yes! Chicken disease! We were on the couch earlier together and I was still doing more research. I told my husband to google how to buid a chicken run and he was like "Aaaahhhhh, enough chickens for today!" He is still pretty excited though.

Not my family. I live with my daughter and SIL and Gson. NOBODY wants to hear about chickens. It's like "I just got in the house, can't you ask about my day ?"

Linda, I am following the thread by hellbender as well. VERY good reading! I also am eagerly looking forward to the video!

Where did you get your Chinese kit from? I have scalpels coming and I have a great headlamp.

I did read through the other thread as well, a few months ago. I need to try to refresh on that one. I need to find the links to the dental tool that some use for a rib spreader and also the little cauterizing tool.

I was encouraged to learn this if we are going to breed our own birds for meat......by the vet that we are planning on buying a roo from. And I have read a LOT about it in the last year. I mentioned caponizing the other day in front of someone. I was called a few names, including "sadistic". Uhm, ok. That coming from someone who won't even neuter their dog and keeps it locked up so it won't pee everywhere in the house. A good amount of space, but still. Sometimes excessive "kindness" with animals does them a disservice (like not wanting to get it fixed because he doesn't want to put the dog "through that") We want to provide for our family and that includes not wasting little roos. We do not even have 1 acre......so there is no way we can have a bunch of roos running around until they are big enough for the pot. What if I hatched out 8 chicks and 5 of them happened to be roos?! Ugh! I am being a duck, being a duck (let it roll off my back). Sorry for the mini rant!

Tell them that over 2 million baby males are shredded into dog food every year. This way it gets you the opportunity to let these babies have happy productive lives and live 6-8 mon Five minutes of discomfort is much easier than no life at all. Poco Pollo does the ordering of chinese tools on Graphic pics of my day learning to caponize. I'm going to put in a link to her improved procedure on page 109. This shows the chinese tools and they are great. I have the double set that capons the small ones and the big grown chickens. But you've got to be outstanding at it to do adults.

Graphic images of chicken surgery, If you are squeemish out it don't open the link. Warning Warning

Are you looking for eggs? large or small? Or do you want pet chickens? Pam
Wait till you are an accredited chicken nut and can afford one of those cute ones, to start with, go plain and simple to get you started, nothing complex, it is summer time so you don't need to worry about it being warm right now, protect your chickens from predators and the weather, become familiar with chickens in general and get to a comfortable level before getting into extravigant coops, you are a fairly youing couple with kids, don't leap head first into water ankle deep, who knows, you may hate chickens 3 months from now.
