"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Busy today. Planted curly/straight grasses under the remaining maple.

Planted strawberries where the maple was I had to cut down.

Planted Angel's hibiscus.

The Easter Lillies are in bloom.

And, FINALLY I moved the coops into the shelter. The girls were very excited and couldn't wait to climb in and check it out. It is all wired for an oscillating fan when it gets hotter. The little cage on top is where Angel's baby will sleep at night until she is bonded with Prim, then they'll coop together in the coop under the temp cage. Now that that is done I will finish Jo-Maxing the exterior walks and repaint and finish decorating the chicken yard.

That area is too cute. I especially like the wooden lattice I must get some

Thanks. I knew I wanted lattice in the chicken yard and really lucked out when I found huge amount of heavy lattice at a garage sale, top notch for super cheap. There was even a small piece I didn't know what I would use it for and when I built the shelter I put it on the side that gets morning sun and sideways rain.

Last night when I went to close up the coops all the girls were under the canopy where their coops used to be. They were upset and running in circles looking for their coops. I put them in their coop in the new location and they would run out to the old location. Had to put them in one at a time and lock the coop after each one. Lol.

Does anyone know of anything to help a dog with milk production? We have one nursing a good bit of puppies and I'm not sure she is able to keep up.
The best thing to do is to get some suppliment milk and bottle feed the pups once a day, this will help her keep up, or go to vet online.com and ask the question there, good luck

Daaaang! You have been busy! Great job! Love the shelter! You're such an awesome chicken mama!

What type of litter does everyone here use? Sand of pine shavings? I know some of y'all already answered this. Also, this feels like a dumb question but I'm super new. Does it go inside the coop and run? Or just one of them?

I use riversilt bases, sand throughout coop and areas around coops. I use hay for nests because I always have fresh hay available, in fall I pile up fallen leaves, in winter ill use stacked hay to block drafts if needed. Hay does not compost as well as shavings tho, we do have many good uses for it anyway but requires maintenance. When given the opportunity we will love to go ALL sand deep litter. Clean up is easier , I just rake up waste sorta like cat litter and composting works great. Sand grinds up poop quickest in compost.

Kimmy, I have a tractor type of coop situation but I have used both in the closed in coop part and prefer the sand. I seemed to go through a lot of pine shavings when I was using that and with the sand I just use a kitty litter scoop and scoop the chicken droppings with that. I change out the little bit of sand I do have about every two and half weeks. There was no way for me to "scoop" with the shavings so I was having to dispose and change that out once a week. Just this newbie's experience though!

Thanks. We are putting our coop and large run on an area that is currently grassy yard. Should I kill the grass there with a tarp or something? Do I need to litter the run? I'm mostly wondering about our run, since it won't be moving. I feel kind of embarrassed asking these questions since all of you are already chicken experts and this is probably easy stuff for y'all. I have been looking at pictures of runs on here and it is really hard to tell. No one really mentions it either. I just want to do it right. :)
