So my brother in law decides to "Suprise " my kids by bringing them 6 baby chicks! I don't know what type they are or if there is a way to sex them!!! Don't know how old they are either. My husband said we could only keep 3 because we had just gotten 3 orpingtons the week before. I don't want to give away the wrong birdies!! Help!!!! Can't have any Roos

Hey Mcm

Definitely can't help you on this. New too

I HIGHLY recommend a salt water pool! There is very little maintenance, and I love the fewer chemicals. My pool hasn't turned green in the 6 years I've had it, and the only thing I add is more salt.

So excited about my new tractor style coop. The only issue I have been round about with is that there is no floor, to speak of, in the coop. Obviously there will be no cleaning the bedding out the coop, that's a plus! I just need to move it every few days. What are y'all's thoughts about this? I'm sure we could always modify it to have a floor but do I need it? I'm thinking without one ventilation is a non issue bc no airflow is impeded. Here are some pics and let me know what you think. Note: I took the nest boxes out until a further time that my girls will be so inclined. That would be in about two months. :)

Now all the doors fold down, solid on top and hardware on the bottom. We have installed an auto door on the side as well.

They are enclosed by an electrified poultry net so no problems with predation so far.

White earlobes...pullet bin chick. Do Cornish have white earlobes? It was supposed to be an EE lol but I'm not seeing any EE in that chick. Butthead is that chick :gig really really has the feather pattern of that pictured Cornish hen! Bah. Feel chick fever coming on again! The first chicken we processed was a Cornish or barnvelder because she was brutal to the flock and a huge butthead :gig is this her reincarnation?
This was her...

My first thought was barnevelder. Another suggestion would be dark cornish.

I had salt water in my pool. It's really chorine the salt evaporites it leaves chorine gas which gets pumped into the pool. We changed to Ecco smart a copper ionization system no chlorine at all. Pool stays algae free if you get it in your mouth it taste like fresh water. We have had it this way for maybe 9 years only needed to buy the copper bar once. They also sell glass beads for the filter and it last longer and does a better job than sand. Pam
