Hes a nice gentle roo, but the two BCMs bully him and I kind of feel bad for him. I am happy to give him to someone who appreciates him. Just let me know if you want him. He was the only one of four silkie eggs that I purchased from ebay in Dec. that hatched. It was so cold in the shop where I had the incubator set, that it was a miracle that I had any hatch at all. I generally have terrible luck with chicks and I end up with lots of roosters. I had to harvest 8 of them last week. I won't do that with silkies. Black skinned chickens don't appeal to my appetite.

I really need to go get the fans. I know how I can put them in my coop but now just trying to figure out how I'm going to put them in my 2 grow out coops!! I'm thinking about covering the top and sides down to about 4 or 5 foot from the bottom with a tarp and that way it should give them plenty of shade. Just hoping that the covering would be enough to keep the fans from getting wet!!

I wouldnt cover them that low. You should only need 2 foot from the top max to keep the weather out but could close it down enough to cause a greenhouse effect. That would make your heat factor even worse as all the hot air would be trapped 4 feet from the ground up

Ventilization, shade, and fresh water are the most critical elements with the high heat. Thats one of the top reasons I use auto watering in all my pens and dont close them in.

Harry, where do you get feed from?? I need to go there for sure!!

I get it from Circle T in Franklinton. I live about the same distance from Franklinton as I do Kentwood so
the trip is no different plus we have to take my grandfather 3x's/week to Franklinton for dialysis.
You could call Dykes feed mill in Montpelier and check on their prices.

I've been meaning to go there just haven't had a chance!!

I have to agree with lamike. We haven't even had a threat of rain here. It's just been hot as hades. My puppys won't even stay outside but for a little bit before they are barking at the door.

I know I mentioned this a few days ago, but just priced them. They are called evaporative cooling fans. They use water to cool the blowing air. You can get one at home depot for $99. I know it is pretty pricey but just thought that if you could put one in the coop that it would keep it pretty cool. I know at DH's work they used them and it usually kept it about 20-25 degrees cooler. Just thought I would mention it again.

I pray everyone is staying safe in this heat.
