"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Two orpingtons, one Easter egger, I'm not sure what types the other one is. One has feathered feet. ( will take a pick tomorrow) They are more of pets. They are only a few weeks old, but been outside from day one. My run and coop are shaded and just built another wooden tent where their food is, fully shaded with ventilation. Going to get a solar powered fan tomorrow. They have the a 5 gallon bucket with chicken nipples for water, and also a 3 gallon gravity waterer. They have a 5 gallon PVC feeder, and I made them a 3 ft PVC gravity feeder.

I have 4 all together.

Today we had severe thunderstorms roll through about 3PM,with some high gusty winds, i looked out to see if my chickens had retreated indoors, some were out scratching in the pouring rain, the others were back and forth, they took the storm and heavy rain in stride like they didn't have a worry in the world, after the rain let up, i went to check and be sure the house wasn't flooded, it was dry as a powder house yet they chose the rain. Normally as soon as the sun comes up, they go back inside and stay there until the sun goes behind a cloud, they all come running out, soon as the sun pops out they run back in.

Hahaha. Chickens are so funny. When it pours rain and the yard gets a bit flooded they will walk around in the water even though their coops are dry.

We had a day today! I have wanted to make jam for QUITE AWHILE

he.gif
!!!!! But my plans kept being foiled everyday that I thought I would be able to do it. So this morning I told my husband that "come hell or high water I am making JAM TODAY!!!!" He said I shouldn't curse us with hell or a flood, Just make the jam
lau.gif
So make jam I did. Sour Cherry with Red Raspberries. OH~MY! DELICIOUS!!! While I was up to my jamming there was mowing and weed eating in the sunny outdoors. At one point I looked outside and saw that he had started a fire and was dismantling the old hen house and had lite it up in serious KUNTRYGIRL fashion

. So much so that I was like, "Seriously?! Are you trying to kill us all with those fumes and smoke??!!!! I'm trying to can!!! URG!" But of course, he was forgiven because, well he was doing a dirty hard job with taking apart that old house and all. I sure wouldn't want to do that. Then right before I was about to put my first canner load of jars into the canner (which was outside on the grill side burner) It really started to rain
somad.gif
My garden is happy with the rain though. The old coop is completely reduced to a pile of glowing coals now. I ended up with 11 half pints and 6 pints of ruby colored jam. Somewhere between all the work we had a meeting in the garden to see if there were any potatoes actually growing in the potato bed. We stole a few for dinner.......hash browns and eggs
big_smile.png
BTW, anyone else like to eat Jelly Foam? We love it!

When the fire was a baby. So long Old Coop. I will not miss you!

Raspberry Cherry Jam

Jelly Foam.......we lift this off the top of the jelly/jam before we pour it into the jars for canning. Yum!

New Red Potatoes

Hashbrowns!

This little poem seems to speak exactly of tonight
smile.png

The moon shines,
Casting shadows upon damp earth,
The embers glow and sparkle,
Spit and floating spark,
The frogs chirp and trill,
Delighted with the damp,
The air is thick,
A blanket of fragrance,
Be still and see life,
Be still and hear life.

I hope you all have a great week!

Ha
You have 4 young chicks, you have 8 gals water, you have about 30 to 40 lbs food supply, i think your only worry is either a flash flood or predator attack, how long you going to be gone for?

Ha! I'll be gone for 7 days.i am so nervous to leave!!Our house has never flooded..( knock on wood) I am in a neighborhood, so I worry about opossums, raccoons, and
Snakes, cats, and dogs.

GREAT pics AND poem!

Morning La-yers! hope everybody survived the storms last night! Gee did we get a lot of rain! not that I'm complaining - wont' have to water the garden for a few days. The swimming pool in the hens' yard was completely overflowing this morning. Guess I'll be making a trip to town this weekend for a new pair of mud boots -- as I was sloshing across the back yard my left one sprung a leak this morning - that sure woke me up all the way!

Have a good day everybody!

Lol, I don't know. Its just a weird thing that happens like once a year and I rarely write them down. I'm glad you like the soap! I have 2 weeks starting today of these kids going to the military camp with their Dad. All I can think about is making more soap, haha!

GREAT pics AND poem!
Thanks! Last night was CRAZY WEATHER!!!! I was having a prayer meeting at about 3am this morning......shaking in my booties. I half expected to wake up this morning and see trees down everywhere. But its all good. Just wet.
