"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey all...
I go out of town a week and you guys manage 35 plus pages!!! I think that's what I counted. I have to go back and catch up. I checked in with Facebook some, but not BYC.
My husband was home taking care of my horses and "d*mn chickens" as they started to be called. LOL... He mentioned that there were some chickens in the nest box when he went to collect eggs, so he reached under them and took the eggs like I showed him. WELLLL....it turns out that I had 3 go broody....

My Ameracauna (spelling?) and my Polish both chose the SAME box.

Sooooo, my Polish has most of her POOF pulled out. She looks pitiful!!! My Colombian wyandotte was the third one to go broody. I put all three of them in a barn stall. They can cool their jets in there. That's how I broke my blue orpington from being broody. These three were some seriously ****** off hens when I carried them to the barn.

Everyone looks a little rough because of the heat. It's time for some extra special care for a while. I think they are all mad at me!!

On a funny side note, a neighbor needed to borrow some hay. When he pulled a bale down, an egg fell, just missing his head. I have two that like to hang out on top of all the hay bales. I had been wondering if they were laying up there. Turns out there were about 8 eggs up there. Too bad none landed on his head.

Good Morning, Louisiana!!!! Tah Dah!!! Are you ready for this? I have TEN count them 10 new chicks. Super Blue Egg Layers. This is the batch that spiked on day 1 of over 110. (Before I brought them in the house) I kept them in the bator because they were not broken or smelly. I got 14 and 12 went into lockdown. I dry hatched 35%-45% humidity. Still a chance of the other two. It's day 21.

SIL's 21 yr old daughter got a trespassing and under 21 liquor ticket right before her birthday. He was able to pull some strings to keep it off her record. She has to do community service along with her boyfriend. 10 hrs. each. The judge told her attorney he could have them do it at our company Haughton Dog Grooming. She has to clean our house and he has to mow and edge. She said she'd rather it be on her record.

But I hear her in the kitchen pouting and doing the dishes.

I forgot to say this was for Angel to compare to her hen......

duh!

Here are a few shots of one of the hens that JUST is coming into lay. I got it on Feb 11, 14 I believe. I'm pretty sure they were already close to 2 weeks at that time.

I did a few different shots so you can compare. Their legs were a little yellow-ISH when they were younger. As they got closer to lay their legs lightened up and now are more of a very light flesh color. Not yellow at all. I am not sure what the standard is but these are just hatchery stock. But they already are pretty heavy hens.

The egg on the left is the first egg from the girl pictured above, or her sister. I think its her sister though, as that one was back in the box again today for quite awhile. AND the other one was REALLY interested in the new chicks yesterday. She was hanging out by their pen for quite awhile yesterday after I let her out. I just didn't want to pull her out of the box to get pics of her. This girl pictured above is a B*$#@!!! Not friendly at all! The one that has just started laying is nicer though. And I have 2 younger ones from McMurray hatchery. It will be interesting to see if there ends up being any difference between the different hatcheries.

The egg on the right is from a RSL

What are those? White rocks? I have 4 that are almost 3 mo old. They look really good. Not sociable at all.
I found another chick. That's 11 now.

I think my garage chickens laid an egg!
I think thy are white rocks? Do white rocks lay white eggs? If not I'm not sure who did. I have mostly brown layer pullets not laying yet and a couple tinted layers...

Yes, White Plymouth Rock. This one came from Privette Hatchery. That is where the local feed store gets their chicks from. Then I also got some with my order from McMurray. I really like sociable chickens so its kind of annoying that these aren't. But if I were to want birds to free range and be really independent I bet these would be very well suited for that. My Barred Rocks were always kind of standoffish as well.

I'm not sure if any of my Basques or Coronation Sussex will hatch at all They came from Pa. The Basques are incredibly friendly, have high hatch rates on shipped eggs and are good free ranging. Spanish so they tolerate high heat extremely well. I might have to wait to order some more, but I'm going to get into them. The south needs these down here and I'd like to supply them.
