OK chicken peeps, my wife collected our first egg today, probably the second one layed, she thinks one was layed while on the roost and it busted yesterday, but this morning she heard a hen cutting up before letting them out, she checked the nests and found a small brown egg, she is going to try to get a picture to me so i can show the world, Oooo RAAAA

That's awesome! Are you cracking it open and eating it? Nothing like fresh eggs.

I caught an egg in my hand on its way out once. It can't get any fresher than that!

You are very welcome, i built the doors and hung them before i framed the side the latch is on and the top because doors just seam to allways sag a little after hanging, it would be nice if they made hinges with slotted holes to adjust them with, if you miss the first time, you have to use longer or larger screws if you have to adjust them. It saves a lot of time and aggrivation to hang them with a 3/8" spacer underneath, that way they are on an even plane with the bottom, the rest can be set with the proper clearence once the door is set right.  Each door frame takes egg-xactly 1 8 ft 2x4 if you cut them right the first time,lol

I used kitchen cabinet hinges. So far, so good. My coop door is a human screen door from Lowes. I cut off the bottom and reinforced every joint with screws, then put hardware cloth behind the screen. Using the cabinet hinges was easier and feels sturdier. I have two more hinges I may add later.

NO, she is going to put it up till i get home so i can see it. I am not sure if she knows how to send a pic from her phone but either way, we have reached a milestone in the chicken adventure, maybe she will get out there in time tomorrow to see which one is laying, she says the shell seams to be thick so that is a good sign, i dont have oyster shell out for them yet but they are on layer ration now.

NO, I am at work offshore still 9 days from home, maybe there will be 10 eggs when i get home, or even more.

I hope so! That would be awesome. Imagine when they are all laying! I One of three of our ducks just started laying, and we're getting an egg a day. I can't wait until they are all laying!

AS promised here is our first egg, it is tiny as far as eggs go, but as a monument of success, it is like charlie browns great pumkin, it only cost me about 700$ so far to get to this point

Here you Mr. Lawrence Chapman Sr., this is the egg I found this morning. I told you it wasn't very big. I have a white egg beside it, just in case you couldn't tell. Proud papa of a little brown egg. I will love it, hug, and not squeeze to hard and call it George for you. LOL

Good to know. Thanks. I'm so aggravated. I went out at 8:20 to make sure everything is ok and somehow the big chickens had knocked off the grate of my improvised brooder. Ok course they jumped out. Big girls didn't like them and they walked right through the fence. Tiny little devils. I managed to get all but 1 and it will probably come back in when everybody settles down. I've got the other 10 back in the dang storeroom. Payday is Friday. Sigh
