You should get.olive eggers dark brown egg layer and a blue/green gene in the roo. Oh I want a roo so bad lol

 That is a beautiful brown aint it? I have 10 of them that should start laying about the end of Aug./1st of Sept./ I read they are generally darkest when they first start laying and get lighter when getting close to molt and dark again after molt or when they increase laying after winter is over. I plan on breeding my EE Roo to A Black Australorp which lays a dark brown egg or maybe even a Dominique and see if i get greenish eggs. Maybe one of my BRs will lay a really dark egg.

OK chicken peeps, my wife collected our first egg today, probably the second one layed, she thinks one was layed while on the roost and it busted yesterday, but this morning she heard a hen cutting up before letting them out, she checked the nests and found a small brown egg, she is going to try to get a picture to me so i can show the world, Oooo RAAAAe

I may have more than one Roo, i think at least one of the rescue chicks is a roo from the coloring of its feathers, i should know in a few more weeks, i do not plan to keep more than the one i got with the ones i bought.

Thanks Ron, yes that is a Barred Rock egg, now to get the other 14 of them laying. I figgured they would be small to start with so the size is ok with me, they will get bigger, if all goes well, i think i may be getting between 35 to 40 eggs a day before winter sets in,maybe more with the DOMs& BSLs, all this chicken math has my thinking wheels smoking,lol

They will all start shortly last week we had one new egg. Now 3 new ones are laying. I know all about chicken math just got a bator and dieing to give it a go. Hoping my 4 month old Crested cream legbars start laying soon. Pam

Just heard from another neighborhood person that several dogs have gone missing lately so that tells me the coyote problem may be more than just the one we found in my chicken yard. Any advice on what I can do to help my girls out? How high can a coyote jump? My electric net fence is 4 ft tall. Any advice is appreciated.

A determined coyote will try many things and test for holes in your barriers when such an easy meal is on the other side. Silly chickens are just yummy.
They can clear a 6ft fence. But tend to use things (bow stand, crates and have been caught climbing chain link) they'll dig a tunnel faster than a rabbit if paws are in good shape and can squeeze thru any hole as wide as its skull. Skilled wild dogs they are...they kill a whole flock as a reward for getting in too we've shot 2 here and before they came for the chickens they took about a dozen stray cats.

Animal control came out and set traps for free. Can't shoot them then but can relocate or AC may put them down.

I think your fence is awesome. Great step in predator protection even if not without a fox or coyote testing it We have a dog that roams the property line and a good sight on the rifle I'd love a nice electric barrier.
