I'm in slidell. I'll PM price if you want them after I give you all info. It will be reasonable. I have the rare ones red black breasted ones. She started laying she laid a dozen then stopped laying. She just started laying again. These birds do not lay everyday. It could have been due to your move or the natural ebb and flow of the way this breed lays. May I ask what are your plans ? Do you show them?
I will try to find a recent pic.

These are pics from June and August so they are a little bigger and males feathers are longer but don't touch the ground yet.

Hey everyone,

Just saying hi. I've been eavesdropping with nothing to post about. The chicken house is coming along well. I'm getting a little anxious about raising chicks. I still have to build a brooder and am running out of time. Hopefully I'll have the coop pred proof next week. Will still have the main run to build. I've been putting in long days doing this by myself. My order of buckeyes are scheduled to hatch on the 12th. Will post pics when I can.

Cody
Hey Cody, glad you checked in.

The brooder doesn't have to be much for a couple of weeks. Big boxes with shavings works. I have 2 Barred Rock babies in a plastic tote. Easy, enough room and I can concentrate on the things that need to be done first. A have a fellow coming tomorrow to build me a coop made out of 4' x 8' pallets. An A frame 12' x 12' thats 6' in the middle and 4' on the sides. He's building it for under $250 so I am getting a bargain. Actually, a $150 for lumber and $100 for his time. Lives in Shreveport.

Pam, I'm getting a little bummed about my eggs. This is hatching day and not one peep. The eggs came from Pa and even though I requested more packing he still sent them bubble wrapped in one box. I just paid $15 shipping for him to replace the other batch that was scrambled. (Not listening to me)

Oh man tho im willing to travel that's kinda far for me I'm in arnaudville yes I planned on showing and breeding them

We need to find Jeff. He can tell breeds and sex birds like nobody's business. I'll try and track him down for you . Pam

Thanks Pam! Would love to hear thoughts on them. I just need to invest in a chicken breed encyclopedia.

I usually post my newbies in the "What breed/gender is this?" forum, but this time it just slipped my mind. I'll get them cleaned up and then try to get good pics.

Anyone have thoughts on chicken bathing? I did it once in prepping Evangeline for the fair and thought it might help me get a good look at these girls. It doesn't help that they're filthy, and smelly. It looks like they were all on the bottom row of stacked cages at one point, especially the hens. Their feathers feel... sticky almost. I don't have room for them to dust bathe in their current quarantine... So, baths? Honestly, it might be just as "easy" to build a sand box for the bottom of the kennel, and getting rid of that hay would probably also help with the smell. Sand is working wonders in my main coop.

I had one of mine get into glue. I used a mild soap. The chicken seemed to like the bath. I would dry it completely in this cool weather. Or keep indoors till dry where you can control the weather. Pam
