I have been given the greenlight by my wife that i must get an incubator (Soon- Now ) which means i am bator shopping, i am asking for in put on this subject, it has got to be fully auto. and simple and capable of hatching at least 24 and up to 48 chicken eggs,

Terri gave me this advice and she was right.Brinsea auto advance 20 get the egg turner with it. its fully automaiic you can get the bigger model. sometimes they have a scratch and dent section. You can get a coupon code from the chicken Chick I waited for a sale and used the coupon. I feel this model will last a lifetime. Pam

For days, in every spare minute I have been working on a not so pleasant job. My husband recently evicted someone that hasn't paid rent in a LONG time. My husband is too nice in my opinion, lol. The house had been sitting for awhile because he is busy. Then the other day he and our oldest, along with some friends went to "pick up". They were not prepared for the volume of STUFF! Bags and bags to the trash and bags and bags brought here. At least 10 of the big black bags. I've been sorting, throwing more away and washing the good clothes to sell. Seriously, they have more clothes than my kids. And NAME BRAND. And had no problem walking away like it was nothing, asking the neighbor if they wanted anything they were welcome to it. 50 pairs of jeans/Jean shorts and khaki pants is what is done so far.

I don't think I will ever understand.


Oh, and like a dozen cell phones....... Bizarre.

Or donate any unwanted cell phones to your local women shelter or senior living alone, or church, they can still be used to call 911 even if they are not activated phones. They only need to be able to be charged....Just an idea!

I suggest staying away from the Brinsea Eco 20...I regret buying it every day.

Pros:

1. Easy to operate, easy to set temperature, rotates as it should every hour or so while in the cradle

2. Great for drying out chicks if your forced to wash them from a dried egg sticking to them.

3. Works great as an ICU for weak chicks

Cons:

1. As the cradle makes its full turn to rotate the eggs, any water in the reservoir tends to pour onto one side and all the water is lost through four screws on the bottom of the unit. Forcing you to place a sponge or wash rag in the bottom, stuffing it into the reservoir to retain the water, or the RH will drop to 20% with in an hour of your filling the reservoir...This is a pain during hatch date.

2. All four corners have different temperature readings, the main thermometer can read a perfect 99.5 in one corner, while the farthest corner is at 97, and all four corners have a different reading. I had to use four digital thermometers with RH reading taking up the room of 8 egg.


3. The addition Humidity tank is required if you want your eggs to survive to hatch date.........I lost more eggs in the Brinsea than I
ever lost in any other unit. I use mine as an ICU unit for weak hatchlings, or for drying out the down after they hatch.

4. Dry incubation is almost impossible to attain when hatching Batnams or Dark shelled eggs (ie: Marans) the RH stays at about 20% even fully loaded with eggs... when adding a wet wash rag, it only stays between 40-60 for a day, forcing you to open the unit every day to add water to the wash rag.

I use three home made incubators that cost $10 to make and they do a better job and hatch more than the brinsea could ever think of hatching. I consider the Brinsea a guaranteed death for eggs.....I can not trust it.....

Suggestion: If you have to have one right away...you can make one in about 45 minutes and one trip to a feed store for a cradle. Most hold 41 eggs and is less than 35.00 an ice chest, hot water tank thermostat, a ceramic light bulb fixture, and a PC fan you can pick up from a local thrift store and a wall plug from a broken lamp, box fan, or any type replacement wall plug with wire will do a glass jar with a sponge. a small piece of plexi glass, ..just an idea if you have to have it right away and they cant get it to you fast enough.

Mine need no maintenance, I check mine through a plastic glass window I put in the top, and only open it on days 7, 14, and 18....The temp and RH stay perfect.......my hatch rate is at 95%

Wow - I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with yours! I did a lot of research before I bought mine several years ago. When I first started hatching, I had two homemade incubators and then two Hovnabators before getting the Brinsea. I have never had any of the problems you mention with mine & my hatch rates have been outstanding. I've hatched chickens, peacocks & guineas in mine. I also have loaned it out to other people who also had successful hatches with it. There's always pros and cons with any incubator, which is why there are so many types available.

Morning La-yers, so glad elections are over! I hope they take all their signs down soon. Since we are off for Veteran's Day next Tues, I just scheduled a four day weekend! My mother will turn 83 on Veteran's Day so I'm taking her shopping on Monday for some things. Monday is her day; I am at her disposal to do whatever she wants done. I also am working for a new landscape painting to go over her sofa. Not much else going on here, have to turn payroll in early so working on that. Fun times! Have a nice day everybody! I think I'm fixing to fire up the 'bator & hatch some Rhode Island Reds & Barred Rocks & work on making my own Rhodebars.

Mornin! This cold is kicking my butt.

Fowl pox is in full swing; only one pullet not noticeably affected. I've got wet and dry, now. I followed advice I found here and rinsed gunky eyes with saline, applied neosporin around eyes, applied iodine to lesions, and added my own step with a few drops of VetRX for each. Then I showered because it was not a smooth process for anyone.

I voted yesterday and talked to a neighbor about having her 13-yo watch my chickens when we go out of town.

I'm selling the RIW at the next auction, I've decided. Even after two weeks they still keep everyone else in the flock totally stressed. I'll miss the eggs, but I have a couple of orpingtons, australorp mixes, and a marans that are reaching pol. So, that will more than make up for it.

Or donate any unwanted cell phones to your local women shelter or senior living alone, or church, they can still be used to call 911 even if they are not activated phones. They only need to be able to be charged....Just an idea!

That is what I said, lol! But he threw them out (I wasn't there for the main clean up since I get to do all the cleanup and selling

) But he said every one of them had a cracked screen. Yikes! Its too late once he had sent them to the dumpsters though.

Wow - I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with yours! I did a lot of research before I bought mine several years ago. When I first started hatching, I had two homemade incubators and then two Hovnabators before getting the Brinsea. I have never had any of the problems you mention with mine & my hatch rates have been outstanding. I've hatched chickens, peacocks & guineas in mine. I also have loaned it out to other people who also had successful hatches with it. There's always pros and cons with any incubator, which is why there are so many types available.
