"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

You can add it with the cider I do.Garlic is a no no for chicken. A little doesn't kill them but it is cumlative. So I would lay off garlic and onion. Use the oregno and rosemary instead. Pam

I guess we have differing opinions on garlic. I got my information here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/386310/garlic-for-chickens

I feel like my chickens did really well on garlic. When I ran out and forgot is when the cocci, fowl pox, and everything else started. That's anecdotal, and probably a coincidence, but it makes sense to me. :)

Hello everyone :) Last time I posted pics I didn't have the run built. Here it is finished. I had to move quite a bit of dirt to get things partially level for the run. It was a job to build and I'm glad to have it finished. It is 30'x32' covered completely with hardware cloth. The cloth is buried approximately 12" deep around the perimeter. I planted rye grass, rape, wheat, and crimson clover in the run. I know it won't last long but at least it will give the birds something green to get started on this fall. The chicks have had access to run for three days now. I haven't seen them venture to the far end yet. They don't hang out there long. Usually out for a few minutes then back inside they go under the roof or to the brooder where the lamps are for a nap. A shot of the inside. The brooder is to the right through the door with plastic on it. I'm not finished yet. Still have roosts and nest boxes to build This shot was after I crushed acorns for the chicks. They gobbled them up like candy. A lot of the acorns had worms in them. A little extra treat with protein. :) The afternoon dust bath. These guys are almost 4 weeks old now. Hope all are doing well. I've been reading along with nothing really to post about. Cheers to all, Cody
That is awesome!

I tried everything natural I could Pam including oregano oil. I didn't add rosemary though. Nothing worked except this last treatment of the Sunrider. I thought I was going to have to cull the whole flock. It was awful! I hope you have had success with oregano oil. I use young living and I love eo! Let me know what eo you have used with your flock that had helped, I would love to have that in my arsenal for the future!

I use young living. The product I was talking about has several natural supplements in it. I got it from my pet chicken. I'll let you know the brand when I go outside agin. I knew it had those 2 oils so I thought it would help. Pam

That is good to know about garlic! I've been giving quite a bit to them because I've read several people gave it as a preventative. Thanks Pam, maybe it was doing more harm than good!
their is a list of foods on this site or one of the others maybe my pet chicken. Of foods that aren't good for them.f

Good day everybody, I am asking to see if someone in the Folsom covington area could help out a local teacher with a freerange organic chicken. She and a student are doing a project on the differences in local and commercially processed chickens. She is a coworkers wife of mine and asked me but I don't have any expendable chickens. If u can help please pm me thanks

On your link their is mixed info on garlic I know a lot of people do it. I read not good that a little won't kill them but it's cumlative. The new thoughts on dog's says the same thing.its your flock if you think it is helping continue..just an obersavation your hen's have the same or simular illness and you both feed garlic. So is it keeping them healthy? Or is it suppressing their immunity? I can't take that risk with my rare breeds. Who knows later on their could come a new study saying it's good for them. Pam
