"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks for the info Pam. No new additions yet. I still have my seven. The three young Barred Rocks are still laying. Three just molted so they are all set for the winter. The other four will have a cold period when they molt. In the spring I plan to get four more and hatch them myself. Starting with the two grown and five pullets this past year was a good learning experience. I bought a few books from amazon and am getting supplies gathered up over the next few months.

Great idea! I've started hatching my own. I've added crested cream legbars and Bielefelders. I have legbars in the bator now. And looking at a few other breeds. Now my layers are paying for their feed now plus some extra. It will fall in to place in no time for you. Keep in touch. Pam

I got my hands on some tylan 50 today, should I give her that? I was thinking of giving it to all of them with gunky eyes.

I have been dealing with something similar. ..swollen eyes, coughing sneezing, diarrhea. One died, I sent a second for a necropsy, I'm still waiting for the results. I have the whole flock tylan 200, and several got better but several were still sick.
The vet recommended another antibiotic but I couldn't eat the eggs for 60 days and I didn't like that! So instead I gave them a natural product I use on my family and have used on my cat. It is a Sunrider product called sunsmile fruit and veggie rinse. It kills everything! And it is safe to digest so I don't have to worry about it being in the eggs.

I have it to the whole flock and my ducks too in their water. I also added a probiotic to their food everyday I gave the fruit and veggie rinse. The entire flock not only got well but the duck who were showing signs of parasites also improved and are no longer showing any signs!
From now on I'm trying that first! Plus the bottle is only $5. Way cheaper than all the stuff I bought that didn't work!

I find that's usally how is goes usually the home remedy works better. Some feeds have probiotics in them already. Pam

Take a breath, ok. That's exactly what I tell my kids when they get worked up. Great minds must think alike. ;)

Symptoms: Nasal discharge, mostly. They take turns having bubbles in their eyes. At least one hen has a thick glob of something like pus on/in her eyelid. I'm going to give them all thorough checks in the morning, which is one full week since my last work-through. After going through casportpony's wet pox thread I guess I'm just pretty concerned about a hen losing an eye to infection.

Ok I went therw my chicken first aid wellness kit.One product the I give mine to keep them healthy has oregano essential oil. here is what my eo oil PDR say about this oil Its a powerful Anti-Infectious agent( for respertory, intestines. gential,Nerves,Blood and Lymphatics) With large-spectrum action against bacteria, macobacteria, fungi, viruses, and Parasites. It's a general tonic and immune Stimulant. So If I was you and had thraputic grade EO or could get it, this one is inexpensive, I would put 2 to 3 drops in a quart of water an add to waterer for all your flock. You could add rosemary to it in the same amounts it's an expectorant and anti-infectious. Or go to My pet chicken and order the supplement. Pam

Would I add that in addition to the apple cider vinegar, or in place of it? I'm hoping to start a big herb garden in the spring. They have ACV in their water full time, and I add garlic to their food as preventative. I gave them a pumpkin recently and have a few more, but I'm considering following up with safeguard just to be sure.

I tried everything natural I could Pam including oregano oil. I didn't add rosemary though. Nothing worked except this last treatment of the Sunrider. I thought I was going to have to cull the whole flock. It was awful! I hope you have had success with oregano oil. I use young living and I love eo! Let me know what eo you have used with your flock that had helped, I would love to have that in my arsenal for the future!

You can add it with the cider I do.Garlic is a no no for chicken. A little doesn't kill them but it is cumlative. So I would lay off garlic and onion. Use the oregno and rosemary instead. Pam

That is good to know about garlic! I've been giving quite a bit to them because I've read several people gave it as a preventative. Thanks Pam, maybe it was doing more harm than good!
