"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Evangeline seems more alert today. She drank water from a cup (that I was holding) and was picking at stuff on the floor. I mixed a little scratch with the little egg crumbles left from last night, and she was picking at that when I left. :fl

False alarm.

Guess I spoke too soon. I happened to go check on her just in time to catch her vomit. Chickens don't usually do that, right? Now I've got a new symptom to look up. :/

No that's not normal. What are all her systems? Have you felt her croop? is it hard or squishy, round and full Or flat and empty? Pam

How's that? Still answer my questions some here might have been threw it before, might have a different take on what's wrong? She didn't vomit. Pam

No, she didn't. I caught her out of the corner of my eye; she dipped her head and I heard liquid splatter on the floor (she wasn't in the laundry basket). I had to catch my stomach so I posted and looked up a few things, then went to check it out. Floor was dry around her front, and wet around her bottom. So it was just a gross poop.

Her crop has been empty, but I haven't felt it today. There is a smell coming from her that I was assuming was from the wet pox in her mouth. She's drinking the water with the sav-a-chick pretty well on her own. I got an egg today, so I can give it to her in a bit.

Had some appointment I'm back now. Is the smell sour? And poop diarrhea? Blood or no blood in poop? Pam

PM her and ask. I was going to buy on the 3rd of this month so maybe. Good luck!!!

Linda, I got in contact with Cacklejoy. Her birds are molting at the moment. She said to get back with her in about a month.

Guess I need to start looking at incubators. :) Everybody probably already knew that would be the next thing I'd bring up. LOL

So got any suggestions for a 30-50 egg incubator? One that won't brake the bank :)

I was looking at this one on the Stromberg site "Electronic Thermostat Circulated Air Picture Window Hovabator Incubator - 1588" with the automatic turner.

It's not sour like old milk or spoiled food, but just smells unpleasant. Like wet feed on old damp wood. Poop is 90% water with a few solid bits and bright green, no blood. It looks like when it's hot and they're drinking a lot of water, which I guess is because she's getting fluids but wasn't eating much.

It sounds like a good deal. I know that the 1588 is a really good brand. I was going to caution you to check out Amazon first but they are still cheaper and you get free shipping. I paid $133 for my Fleming Farming Innovator brand with shipping and I'm not really satisfied. It could be me. How do I know? I'm still so ignorant of all this stuff

But the reviews on the 1588 are good. Look into dry hatching. There are threads on here. You'll get a better hatch rate. I would not hatch good birds the first time. Wait for spring. Get some hatching eggs locally and practice. This is my advice and I'm sticking to it. I didn't follow it of course and did GREAT the very first hatch. BUT CackleJoy has been trained on how to pack eggs well and the Marraduna are supposed to have extra good hatch rates. Keep us in the loop.

( I forgot you are in Ruston, I was thinking local in Bossier/Haughton.)
