I think we have a amber white looks like canpingshaw's. A sexlink, the black one is the one that is injuried. Ron's calling her the gimp. And two bantam Easter eggers. Pam

They're awesome. I need to become established as the chicken lady in my area.

It's young it has wattles but they are small.not a good pic it's flighty.

Can't tell from that picture angle & it may be too young yet.
tell you what, come get 2 of my males anyway if you want to keep it -- 2 males & 1 female are OK, 3 males are OK since they have no female to fight over. Or, I'll take it off your hands if you don't want to keep it -- but, they ARE superior snake control! I know mine are & that's why I got more when I lost my original flock!
edited to add, & of course if you don't want it & I take it, with my luck it'll be another male! nothing like adding to my present headache!

Am I remembering right? Doesn't Angel live near you? I think I saw her post on fb that she was looking for some hens. Maybe shoot her a pm.

I pulled up there pictures to remind my youngest (the chicken whisperer) what the Ayam Cemani looked like. She loves them of course. Bit you should have seen her face when she saw the price on the GF website. :lau pretty funny.

I drug my exhausted butt out to the barn late this afternoon to help Superman with some "hand me this and hand me that" or "hold this". I'm telling you, I need some energy. If anyone had any ideas I would probably eat just about anything right now, no matter what it was. If it would help! Anyway. He installed one of the extra cages. It's divided in the center, with a latched for that can open in the center. We can use it as one large cage, or 2 seperated. Still a few small details to do tomorrow. Then in moving these 2 broody bantams up there. They are HOGGING one of the nestboxes and both are just crammed in tight together like 2 bugs in a rug. Tomorrow after we get some privacy (otherwise known as cardboard) ziptied up in going to move them up there into one side. One of these girls had been broody for what seems like FOREVER and the other one is the frizzled white Cochin that my girl took to the fair. I guess if they can have some babies they will get over it. And the girl wants to hatch more white cochin eggs anyway so she can have more to choose from. I'm glad we will have this cage done. Then we can have room for pair breeding or for getting birds into decent shape for showing.

One day I want to be world famous for my chickens. Speckled Sussex, by Sharon. :D

In other news, are any of y'all on reddit? They have a huge gift exchange every year, and this year my gift came from Massachusetts.

Isn't that just the BEST!?! I can't wait to get a garden started now. Of course I'll be constantly asking for help. :D and husband has begged me not to carry that purse. :lau

That is an awesome gift!

This is the first year I'm having good harvest on sugar snap peas. They are so good! I think I just had my timing off before. And they just keep going, even in this cool weather. Pretty cool.

Vitamin D deficiency? Mine was about half of "normal" and I'm on a HUGE weekly dose now. I have to go for more bloodwork to see if that will also solve a few other problems. I get so, so sleepy sometimes. One day in the summer I walked from the kitchen to the office, maybe 20 yards? I could feel myself sinking so I tried to walk back to my car, to drive home (less than 1/4 mile). Instead I opened the hatch, closed it back, and slept on the floor for over an hour.

It happened several times like that, and really scared me because in the off season I'm the only one home with my 2-yo. Luckily I haven't had anything nearly as bad since taking the vitamin d. What's REALLY funny is that I was looking up good food sources of vitamin D and found that one was fish, and one is egg yolks. So two summers ago I got on this kick and I was eating eggs with spinach/pumpkin seeds/sunflower seeds, etc. every morning, and either tuna on salad, or herring/sardines every day. I never felt better in my life. It's so funny when our bodies know what we need.
