"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Vitamin D deficiency? Mine was about half of "normal" and I'm on a HUGE weekly dose now. I have to go for more bloodwork to see if that will also solve a few other problems. I get so, so sleepy sometimes. One day in the summer I walked from the kitchen to the office, maybe 20 yards? I could feel myself sinking so I tried to walk back to my car, to drive home (less than 1/4 mile). Instead I opened the hatch, closed it back, and slept on the floor for over an hour.

It happened several times like that, and really scared me because in the off season I'm the only one home with my 2-yo. Luckily I haven't had anything nearly as bad since taking the vitamin d. What's REALLY funny is that I was looking up good food sources of vitamin D and found that one was fish, and one is egg yolks. So two summers ago I got on this kick and I was eating eggs with spinach/pumpkin seeds/sunflower seeds, etc. every morning, and either tuna on salad, or herring/sardines every day. I never felt better in my life. It's so funny when our bodies know what we need.
Okay, Aimee and I talked about this. She doesn't drink milk. Not much sunlight, not many eggs, hardly ever fish or spinach, and never sunflower, pumpkin seeds.

She had bariatric surgery about 12 or more years ago and doesn't absorb nutrients well. So she never takes vitamins. She thinks "why bother". This is why I'm so gungho on trying to get better nutrition into their diets. Give me your daily amount of Vitamin D (vit D3?) tablets that you take. Or just the food.

Unbelievable that people actually do pay $99 per one day chick.  :th

More than that for some of the other breeds. If the isbars I have hatch and do well I might buy there new line to strengthen the ones I have. A lot odd breeders are having problems with them.

I'm on 50,000 uni once weekly, doctor's orders, and that's helped the most. I try to keep canned fish on hand that I can eat in that afternoon slump. And I -love- milk so that's not a problem; I buy whole milk and use it in my coffee more than anything.

When I start getting eggs again I'm hoping to get back to my favorite breakfast scramble: eggs and spinach and seeds of some sort. Sometimes I do mushrooms or black beans and tomatoes/peppers. As for the tuna, I really liked the flavored kind on a big bed of lettuce, tomatoes, celery, shredded carrots, jalapeños, etc etc etc.

Of course I'll be (hopefully) adding in all those lovelies from the seeds. :love

Edit to add: I get TONS of sunlight in the summer (occupational hazard) but I also wear TONS of sunscreen, and I've read that can inhibit the process.

I had breast cancer 5 years ago and because I had multiple surgeries on one side I have weakened muscles there. I was exercising pretty regularly the last couple years and tore the ligaments in my chest. Now I pretty much live in constant pain plus I have a4 month old baby I'm always carrying which doesn't help the healing. I don't like taking pain relievers at all, don't like the way they make me feel and the side effects. Plus I'm allergic to some of the majors. Anyway all that said, I feel so much better in general when I'm taking magnesium, staying away from gluten and unfortunately staying away from coffee which I'm loath to do. But the best help seems to be constant prayer, Jesus does the best job. :) Although I haven't checked my D levels in awhile, I would guess they are better than they used to be due to a better diet in general and good supplements.

Wow, so glad you breast that cancer! And have a little one too. That is just great! I randomly take magnesium when I think of it. I guess I don't really know how much I should be taking. I suppose I should ease up on the coffee. I have Celiac, so no gluten for me. Ever. And Jesus keeps sane, lol. My friend texted be earlier and said they prayed for me at church tonight. I love the new church we moved to this summer. It was a great move. Such kind people.

I have FBCM, wheaton Marans, and Birchen Marans coming from April Howington of Texas Marans after the first of the year! Do excited! I hope you have a great hatch!

I hope your eggs do good with the shipping! Guess what we did today. Put eggs under those 2stubborn broody bantam hens. But we do have a good reason though!

You are more than welcome to 1 or 2 of my extra males. Seriously, guineas are the BEST snake protection I've ever had! I will have to move out 2 males by next spring (March-ish).

Happy winter solstice everybody! now the days will start getting longer -- :weee

Happy Winter Solstice to you as well! I'm dreaming of warm spring days :)

I've seen a few auctions lately for show birds that blew my mind a little. There are people that will drop multiple hundred dollar bills like it's nothing. I guess if we had plenty of dough I might be tempted by some of those feathered beauties. Lol

That's fabulous, Honey, keep us informed on your progress. I'll do the same.

So at 3 a.m. this morning, my six little RIR heathens decided to throw a wild chick party. Chicks gone wild!
wee.gif
There was whooping & chirring & cheeping & wild romping around & rustling & thumping.
D.gif
I have rarely heard such carrying on!

I got up & went to the utility room & hit the light (they are under a heat lamp still since they are only 10 days old but I turn the overhead light off at night). There was sudden total silence. Six pairs of beady little eyes gave me that "deer-in-the-headlights" look, like "WHAT"? We stared at each other for a minute & then I turned the light back off & went back to bed. Things were quieter after that so I think they got the hint! I can tell right now, this bunch is going to be special.

This has to be the funniest thing ever.

Looking at you "What?" Bahahaha

I've hit the ground running this morning at 6am. Started packing up all the chicken stuff that I've been storing in my room until I can get the storeroom organized enough to put everything on the shelves. Then I organized all the boxes of presents that I need to wrap today. My room, after today, will go from a hoarding house to a regular room. My daughter was getting a little concerned when I didn't have much walk space. I have a lot of presents.

The storeroom is workable. I can shift a few things around to get to the shelves. And next I'll work on getting the brooding area set up for my babies. They are on day 6 I think. (Eggs). I'm in the process of shifting all the 18 gallon totes that I store feed in out to the area by the coop. That will free up an immense space in the storeroom. And be a lot easier for me to get to when I make my fermented feed.
Folks, this is my year. It's all coming together. I've got the birds for my good egg selling on Ebay and BYC. I'm ordering 15 CX's and 15 Golden Comets from Schletch hatchery in late Jan for meat and a lot of eggs that I'm going to start selling. I'm in an area that will pay good for non GMO and no corn or soy eggs. The meat will be for my freezer, when I can get one. My plans this year are ambitious. I am going to hire a couple of high school boys to unload a bunch of straw bales and bags of soil for my garden. They can place it for me. Laying bags of soil lengthways and having two rows together will make a 3 x 9 bed. cut the top out of the bag and punch holes in the bottom and add fertilizer and start planting. I want 2 or 3 beds. The same with the strawbales. Two side by side x3 bales long will be be a 30" x 9' bed and I want 2 of them. By next year they will be ready to take the strings off and I'll have my handyman build me a 24" high bed. Stir the dirt/soil mixture down and add a lot of compost and I'll have me some of the most beautiful beds around. The soil grow bags can be turned out and a shorter bed built around them with a lot of compost added to them.
We have 4 new subdivisions being built within 5 minutes of me. I'd like to advertise during the summer to get customers for my eggs and cardboard beer flats filled with garden produce and a loaf of my artisan bread. Maybe $15 for eggs, bread and produce. What do you think? Too ambitious?

And here I was thinking that planting every seed from Christmas was going to be more than I could handle. :highfive:
