Welcome HumphryEggs,

We have a member of this thread, who lives in Opelousas, she has gree/blue hair and is fairly new to chickens also, for someone who had never owned chickens, she fell right into place with them. good luck on your new adventure, it is a good idea to forget to count past 10, or the chicken math monster will get you, i will be passing through there tomorrow on my way home from offshore,

THE CHICKEN CAME FIRST, THERE IS A PROTEIN IN THE SHELL THAT IS ONLY PRODUCED BY THE CHICKEN, SO. NO CHICKEN, NO EGG, NO COOP,LOL
the egg came first cause dinosaurs came before chickens......lol....hahahaha

I finally unplugged the bator this morning. There was a definite smell coming from it.

I've also been browsing the hatching eggs from coastline.

when your done incubating the def is a stench that Is very powerful that comes from it...a lot of nasty stuff is left behind from the chicks when they hatch....its normal tho...I put a paper towel down during lockdown....and when they started to hatch and half of them were in the brooder I added another piece to keep the chicks clean and away from the nasty stuff left behind
notice all the nasty stuff left behind...(before paper towel)

(before)

(after I put the new piece over the old one)

They are so cute I'd love them but I'd be afraid of the preditors here, pam

They are cute. But I don't let them free range here because of predators either. Some are so tiny. Even at like 5 months one is still only like half a lb. I need to weigh them again. The biggest is over a lb. We kept her with the group because she has a nice full breast and stand up pretty good. They are tough to get good photos of because they are always on the move. On the next sunny day I'm going to spend some time trying to get some though. I'm sure someone will like them if I do.

I took the chicks to the lady up the road. She wasn't home, so I gave them to her husband. He was roughly three steps away when my kid started wailing. I'm not sure why, she knew that was the plan all along. She was begging to keep them, begging to buy more, and on and on.

I took the bandaid splint off the baby right before we left, just to see... That leg shot straight out to the right, like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick. Crazy. So I hope they either splint it back up, or cull it quickly.

I have thought about getting Big Pip after our conference, so a little over a week from now. The breeder in Dry Creek just hatched out Olive Egger chicks, so I wouldn't have one chick all alone, and could add some color to my eggs. Nothing is a real plan, yet. Just spitballing the possibilities. :)

The ones like nail clippers with the lever for leverage. Yes there called a "compound toe punch" I'm already on it. Thanks Linda :)

Oh. Should I mark both strains or just one. I'm thinking I should be marking both say a right outside and a left outside or something like that.
On my white rocks, the Blosl came with one toe punch on left. The XW had nothing. It saves you a starting point. I'll continue these with new chicks, but when I start mixing I'll add one punch to each toe on left outside and one on right outside. 3 strains. .

I just heard my Rhode Island Red eggs have been delivered!

The Blue Australorps are due Saturday. I'll set all of them Sunday & they will be due to hatch on Valentine's Day! which is on a Saturday, so I'll be home all weekend!
I could not have planned this any better!

Woohoo, way to go. It's nice when a plan comes together.

Cody, I can't put my hand on where to buy the compound punchers. Ideas?

MandaNola, welcome to the group. I love those little guys. You breed bantams?
