Great article! Well-written & articulate & the pics were wonderful. Those are some beautiful birds! I am amazed that they can be tamed so easily.

Pam, this little Isbar is looking more and more roo-ish every day. Lol I'm hoping it's just a "manly" girl. :P It's such a sweet baby and it's been fun watching it grow so far.

Today this sweet little mottled Cochin is showing its frizzled feathers more and more. I'm guessing since it's inside in the brooder it's going to be spoiled rotten like the brooder babies always are! :tongue

thanks...there is a comment post at the bottom of the page if you would like...I added some things to the end...cause I had someone pm ing me saying what I was giving as color was wrong and such..so I wrote on there that the colors I see are what I see and the same colors might be viewed by someone else differently...especially using light the same bird can look completely different...some of the pics on there are taken only a few seconds after the previous pic and the picture looks totally different....so I apologized to anyone that thought the colors weren't perfectly precise...but that thing took me over a week to gather information and take pics and search and talk and so on....ahhhh...im venting...sorry

Really pretty birds, birdman. As far as people messaging you and giving you a hard time. I understand that it can be hurtful. There are constructive ways that someone could have a CONVERSATION with you. Some people only know how to badger, and not discuss. I see it all the time where people are attacked if there is a difference in opinion. Don't sweat it. Just do your thing. I don't think I would ever raise that kind of bird, but the bright yellow ones are my favorite. Stunning.

I tried to do my best...and the article wasn't yet finished but now with the added things its prolly done....I might add things in there....who knows...I did enjoy being given the opportunity to do this article and I wanted to show that there are so many different kinds of these birds that you never know what they could have in the genetics...and I never claimed for the piece to be perfect...im not a biologist or whatever zookeeper that would know perfect details...just a plain o guy with the passion of birds just like the most of us....just stating my opinion and using the internet for some facts....its quite humorous that someone can message me privately about information regarding these birds when it clearly states that in the wild there is virtually no information about them because they blend into their environment so well....all the pictures were taken from my phone tho....lot of pictures as well...well I just hope that everyone just enjoys it and the information...it was meant to educate not to be argumentative. I guess it is what it is...

Last night I was thinking the chick might be constipated. Did some searching and found where you can give a olive oil enema. So I did just a teeny bit with a syringe. It pooped it out with just a little poo. I found the chick laying on it's back beside the water this morning. It's still alive, don't know how long it was like that. It's like it's too weak to right itself. I watched it for about an hour. It walked to the food and pecked at it a little and then lays it head down and falls asleep. When I dip it's beak in water it doesn't seem to drink or want to. I don't know. On one hand I think it may be fooling me but something is/has definitely been wrong with this chick. It doesn't walk far, when it stops it lays it head down. I've seen it standing with it's eyes closed like trying to sleep on it's feet. It was assisted when hatched and is the smallest out of all the others.

The chick is not pasted up. It's vent is clean. Not red or swollen. It's rear looks good.
I'm using large pine shaving as bedding. The temps, I have three brooder lamps because it's been cold at night. The chicks have plenty of room to find their comfortable spots.
It's not too hot or cold. They aren't huddling together.

The other chick I assisted that had me worried is doing good now. It's running around the brooder.

Thank you Mamkitty.

One of my new baby chicks that is two days old, I am finding with the chicken scratch and the chicken crumble feed Hardened to his bum and he is unable to poop! I am having to take him to the bathroom twice a day and running it under warm water to loosen it and I can remove it. Then i evacuate his bowls and sooo much comes out!! This is the chick that won't stand long so I think that is why it is getting it stuck to it's butt, because it is sitting more than the other babies. Uhhh, what to do??? I stop turning my eggs yesterday so I am expecting 6 more babies now. These are from my own flock and are purebred amerucanas. Excited excited excited chicken mom here

Manda, not sue if your asking me what to do about the pasty chick. I'm sure others will give their advice also. Probiotics and yogurt are good for pasty butt to help grow intestinal bacteria. I'm not sure but I think feeding crushed boiled egg is good also??? If they have access to grains as you say "chicken scratch" they need grit also. I'm sure you know this though.

How are you evacuating the bowels? Are you using a syringe? Just trying to learn. :)
