"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Her eggs aren't green any more? Thats so odd but I had one do that before but I really liked that green. Pam
The last couple of them are taking on more of a green hue thasn when she first started back, but are nice eggs and cant wait to get some hatched and growing out.

I'm going to look in to this. Do you have a list of which oils? I have a lot. I might have everything in the blend. Pam

Ok, is a long list! Glycerides, ginger root oil, Anise seed oil, peppermint oil, cumin seed oil, spearmint leaf extract, rosemary leaf oil, juniper oil, fennel oil, lemongrass oil and patchouli oil.
Whew!

The good news is the farm innovators is working  without issue. I desperately hope I can hatch those 4 eggs from my olive egger Annabelle because of the bad news.... She is in serious trouble. When I let them out for the day she had a weird waddle so I scooped her up and he has a really severe prolapse and is egg bound. It's bad. I mean really, really bad. I'm not sure if we can save her. :hit

I'm sorry! That's terrible!

Selena just died in my arms. She convulsed and poop shot out and vomit and she was dead.

I'm sorry primrose! It's so sad!

Do you ever just look at your eggs and be so glad you keep chickens and don't have to buy from the store anymore. I just think they are so pretty. I read a funny name for them the other day. The amazing butt fruit.

Made some Buttermilk corn bread today and these eggs just looked so pretty to me.

And finally got the chance to make some homemade yogurt for the first time. Crossing my fingers that I did it right. We will see in the morning.

So mix honey in the water also? Thank you Mamakitty. :) would real maple syrup work in a pinch. It's all I have right now. Let me run this past ya'll. A couple days ago I noticed this chick peep when it pooped kind of like it hurt and it only pooped a little bit. I thought it might be a one off thing but I just checked on them and it peeped and pooped at the same time again. Couldn't really see how much it pooped because it's dark with only the brooder lamps on. Any thoughts on this?
day since no one answered the perp-n-poop chick could just be vocalizing its new experience lol, is it doing alright otherwise? What are you using for bedding, sometimes that has been problematic for some folks? Temps good in your brooder?

Last night I was thinking the chick might be constipated. Did some searching and found where you can give a olive oil enema. So I did just a teeny bit with a syringe. It pooped it out with just a little poo. I found the chick laying on it's back beside the water this morning. It's still alive, don't know how long it was like that. It's like it's too weak to right itself. I watched it for about an hour. It walked to the food and pecked at it a little and then lays it head down and falls asleep. When I dip it's beak in water it doesn't seem to drink or want to. I don't know. On one hand I think it may be fooling me but something is/has definitely been wrong with this chick. It doesn't walk far, when it stops it lays it head down. I've seen it standing with it's eyes closed like trying to sleep on it's feet. It was assisted when hatched and is the smallest out of all the others.

The chick is not pasted up. It's vent is clean. Not red or swollen. It's rear looks good.
I'm using large pine shaving as bedding. The temps, I have three brooder lamps because it's been cold at night. The chicks have plenty of room to find their comfortable spots.
It's not too hot or cold. They aren't huddling together.

The other chick I assisted that had me worried is doing good now. It's running around the brooder.

Thank you Mamkitty.

Easy's comb after a fresh coat of coconut oil. I let him out today and he immediately jumped on an SS hen. :yesss:

Caught two girls in the nest today, and when I collected the eggs a third began inspecting the box. :celebrate

Well Annabelle took a turn for the worse over the course of the night and we lost her a short bit ago. It was all very sudden and unexpected. She was a good bird. I really hope those eggs of hers are fertile and I can get them to hatch. It would be a small blessing if I could at least have some chicks from her.

so sorry to hear this.

I think its was one that didn't asorbe all the yolk sac. I had one like that my last hatch he was larthargic. I gave it water with a dropper vitamen water with electrolites. A few times a day foe 3 yo 4 days. It slowly gained strenth. Now its like the rest if you don't intervine it will pass away. Pam

Pam, the chick died. I opened it up to take a look starting with pulling the skin off. The chicks abdominal cavity was filled with yellow fluid(color and consistency of urine) it was inflated like a water balloon. I think it explains why it peeped when it strained to poop. I think it was slowly becoming toxic. The crop had a minuscule amount of food in it. Kind of explains why the chick would pick at the food but wouldn't eat much.
