"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Who's got romantic Valentine's Day plans? We're having a romantic board meeting, then hopefully spending the rest of the romantic day shoveling river rock out of the romantic front flower beds.

I've been reading through birdman's blog and I'm feeling VERY inspired.

I keep forgetting to ask about blood spots: I've read fr other people that they're "rare." But every single one of my white hens lays an egg with blood spots every day. I usually dig it out with a spoon, no big deal. But could that have been why they were at auction? Not suited to someone's egg business because of the constant blood spots?

morning everyone
bloodspots
These tiny spots are not harmful and are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel during formation of the egg. Blood spots do not indicate a fertilized egg.
While it is unusual for you to find a blood spot in an egg from the store, it is not unusual to find one from an egg purchased from a local eggs farm stand. Blood spots are simply a malfunction in the oviduct of the hen. As the egg forms, it is common for small blood vessels to break releasing a tiny amount of blood which is then visible either in the yolk or the albumen of the egg. Blood spot, while unappetizing to most consumers are not bad or dangerous and will disappear when cooked. Home cooks often work hard to remove the slightest bit of blood from the egg when cooking at home but I can assure you that most restaurants don't bother to remove a small blood spot when cooking your breakfast and you would never know once the egg is cooked and served

Romantic board meeting! Camping sounds like you could get a bit persuasive. Be careful mixing business with pleasure.

Haha, that's a fine line to tread when you're married to the director. We're two-thirds of the full time staff. :lau

But it's sounding like I should set out roses and chocolates to get everyone in the mood... to approve all my farm plans! And to get me that new oven. ;)

We had romantic plans, but then my husband got a call and he is spending until Wednesday off shore. They were short handed so off he goes. Disappointing to miss our first Mardi Gras and Valentine's here, but at least he has a job and for that I'm grateful!

That's too bad! If you were closer, you could definitely Mardi Gras with us. Lake Charles has such a good selection of family-friendly activities.

Thanks Camping! I am going to take the kids to some local parades, them I'm going to put them to work pulling weeds in the garden so we can get to planting! I'll start some seeds inside this week too.
Valentine's had never really been on the radar for us, so it's no big deal that Mike is gone for it. Besides what could be better than spending some time snuggling with chicks! Abby our 6 month old loves to go watch them, she gets so excited!
On another note, I scored a cabinet incubator for $400! It's made of oak, 4ft high and has 5 trays. I just need to add turners. Plus the lady is selling it loaded with red bourbon turkeys and African Gray and Brown geese! I hope they hatch! I'm so excited! It's homemade, but they had a professional come in to dial in the fan and temperature regulator. She said her last hatch was over 98%. :D

I read African Gray and was thinking the parrot. This sickness and fever are working their magic on me, lol. Nice score on that incubator! That will be awesome!
